On August 30th around 1:00pm, Union General John Pope ordered the attack renewed on Jacksons men defending the embankment of an unfinished railroad line. For two days the Federals had tried to dislodge Jacksons men from the position without success.

By the afternoon of the 30th, Jackson's men had used most of their ammunition-some units resorted to throwing rocks at the Federals.

Nice to see you at play again George. Nicely stage, photograph and told ...............The Lt.

As the Confederate line was about to break, Longstreet ordered his entire corps, 25,000 men, into an all out attack on the Union right flank. The attack was supported by a Confederate artillery battery.

The Federal 5th New York Zouaves on the Union far left flank stood firm against the Rebel attack, sustaining the highest fatalities of any infantry regiment in the war.

As the Union left crumbled, Jackson's men emerged from the railroad entrenchment to attack the Federal right, but exhausted from the two days' fighting, they were unable to cut off the Union retreat and the battle ended.

Thanks Lt, I appreciate your comments, I enjoyed this one, have a lot of new troops added to the ranks recently, about time to show them off.......

George,

Thanks for the pics and story line. This size of figure allows for me to better grasp the scale of the battle.

Steve

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it, glad you like my work............

George, this is a fantastic dio. Really impressed, as always, by the fine painting detail on figures of this size. The large variety of both troops (especially the Zouaves) and the flags makes for a great time studying the layout just to spot all the differences. I also like the large overview photos. The size of the layout and number of figures involved, along with such details as the fencing, is staggering. -- Al

Al,
Thanks so much for the kind words, I really enjoyed setting this one up, Second Bull Run is one of the battles I've read a lot about, plan on visiting the battlefield this June when I head to Annandale for the next toy soldier show, it's only about 20 minutes from the show location.

Glad you like this one............

Great Job George (even if you did give it the wrong name). Hopefully I'll see you in June.

That would be great if you can make it to Annandale Cap; your diorama inspired me to do this.

Bull Run, Second Bull Run, Antietam, Stones River; those are the right names for a Yankee like I am.........

Just checked my schedule and the show date. Wont be able to make it. I've committed to a Confederate Monument re-dedication on that Saturday. I've really been chomping at the bit to get to a show. Hopefully soon.

George,

You have some nicely painted figures here. :salute::
This layout is even more impressive than the last one! {bravo}}

On to the next, trying to catch up with your threads.

Thanks Jeff and although my collection is not in the preferred scale around here, it's nice to see some people do appreciate the quality of the figures and terrain and the time that goes into it............

WOw George! What can I say that hasn't already been posted by others before me. Very nicely done once again. 2nd Manassas is always one of my fav battles . . .
:smile2: Mike

Thanks Mike, I've studied this battle quite a bit myself, plan on visiting the battlefield in June as I've got a show in Annandale on the 4th, only about 30 minutes away from Bull Run, the parks department has done a great job of restoring the railroad cut and other areas on the battlefield........
