The Clamshell Packs Have to go. (1 Viewer)

I personally prefer the Britains Box format. I ordered two figures recently Sgt.Milne & Cpl.Graham from a very reputable company.
One of them arrived damaged. The clam shell pack was dented and pushed in both back and front. It looked as if it had been in a war zone. !

Although I am sure many collector's prefer the clam shells as they are easier to display and store ..I say let's have all the figures well protected either in better designed clamshells or the box format. These are serving military personnel after all and deserve the best. I for one hate seeing them wounded on arrival and then having to send them back to the wounded Soldiers/Military Hospital to be patched up. !!! replaced.... !

I now have the ineviatable hassle of having to return this clamshell for another to be sent to me.

I for one blame the Royal Mail you could send a package marked TNT and they would throw it around as if it were a rubber ball....

They started adding the plastic sheets after I contacted their then General Manger, Richard Walker about the problem (as I stated earlier in the thread) about a year ago. I found that the black felt behind the figure caused the paint to come off when the figure moved against it.

I looked back over your earlier post and I did not register when you said plastic sheet because I had never received any with that sheet in until this week when I received 20 new figures and the newer ones had the sheet in them. Now I no what you meant and I am sure that it helped but it will not solve the problem completely.

I think we all prefer boxes but most of us has had preetty good luck with the clamshells. Now with Britains putting that piece of plastic in there oblivously there must have been an issue.

I miss getting three or figure boxed sets for 59.99 :) They're was nothing like opening that blue or red box and getting those figures wrapped in tissue paper.

Rec'd this fig as a Father's Day gift. No plastic sheet in the clam shell. No damage. :smile2: Chris

I have purchased hundreds of Britains (Boxed and in Clamshell) and thankfully no problems to-date. I retain all packaging since I rotate the displays. What I would like to see going forward is that Britains continue with the practice of imprinting the figure's cataloque number on the underside of the figure's base. It would save me a ton of time looking up the figures in my reference books to match its proper container, box, etc.

I have again received a damaged Clam Shell Pack....... Maybe I am unlucky or just unfortunate but again I have the hassle of having to send the little fellow back to The Hospital For The Wounded. ! :(

I think that Mr.Postie may have done the damage after trying to squeeze the poor fellow through my standard letter box. Bugger... !

Although I agree The Clam shells are nice and neat, great for storage, even space savers.... they Need to be better REINFORCED to stand up to the riggers of our beloved postal service. I have yet to see a flattened crumpled Box, ****
have I just tempted fate..

Clamshells have something of an achilles-heel. They become brittle when exposed to low temperatures. If frozen, they can shatter much like glass does. Under such circumstances, relatively minor trauma to the exterior packaging can cause the clamshell inside to fail. Heavy interior contents like diecast models or metal figures only serve to exacerbate this effect. Often times, there's no way to know that this has occurred until the container is opened. Stored collectibles would likely not experience this sort of "thermal failure" on store shelves or at home. However, they can get quite cold in shipping. William Liu of Hobby Master Models explained this to me, BTW.

I have given up all hope with the clamshell packs. Too many figures have arrived with paint chips and stuff.
