The Fall of Acre, 1191 (1 Viewer)

Both sides withdrawal in frustration. Both Richard the Lionheart, and Saladin fail to grasp hold of victory today.

That is one fine job!...... The figures, castle and your terrain all fit together so well, you must be really pleased with the fruits of your labour.

Regards

Thank you all (Jeff, Alex, Mark, Templar, et. al.) for your kind words and support. Here's a pic of the real Acre today. The old city walls are made of KurKar, the local limestone. Interesting look at the old defensive works.

Mike,

Great collection and display! You can really tell a story with the photos. What a great way to teach history especially for young people. Thanks for the photos.

Nice work and photos of your diorama Mike. Thanks for posting. I am ordering the Osprey book on the crusades in hardcover. Hamilton books has it on sale. John

Nice job, Mike....very impressive. I like the way you've blended the rock outcroppings into the terrain, with the sand and foliage, etc. It really looks nice. I'm sure we're all looking forward to your next set of photographs, as your diorama progresses. Have you heard anything about Black Hawk coming out with a series of Templars soon? Didn't I read something about that in this forum recently? If true, that could give more options to those of us working on Crusades dioramas. Two years ago there was almost nothing out there in the way of 54mm Crusades figures. It's getting better all the time for us Crusades buffs! Life is good. Just don't watch the evening news.

George

Yes I read that the 4th series for Blackhawk is supposed to be Templars due out in early 2009.I don't know if they will match up with KC's crusader range as their supposed to be 1/32.

Thanks George - I haven't heard anything about Black Hawk's new series but I am always interested in more Crusaders and Crusade related items. If Mark is right it appears we will see someting in 2009. By then I think we will see some new K&C releases. Andy told us at the K&C dinner (Chicago OTSN show) that he would definately be producing camel mounted figures for this range in the future - lets hope. In order to expand my figure collection I have purchased a few AeroArt and other St. Peteresburg Collection figures. Only a few though since they cost alot of $$$$ compared to K&C. Here's a pic comparing a couple AeroArt (on the left) figures with K&C figures (on the right).

Here are two views of Old Acre (aerial photo and a map) from the south looking north. Both of these do a good job of showing the medieval outline of the city (aka: Acco, Akko). The north and east walls were the only land approaches to the city. It is where these two walls meet, the northeast corner, that my diorama is based around.

What I'm finding Mike that's very enjoyable is watching the progress along with the effort you've spent in the researching what you've been doing and the realism your accomplishing with your diorama. Looking forward to seeing more of what your doing to accomplish your goal. Thanks for the time and effort in sharing it with us..........Joe The Lt.

Got to work a little bit on my diorama this past weekend. I have added another ridge with exposed rock outcropping and have landscaped up to and around the northeast corner tower of "Acre". This past Friday was my birthday (egads - 60!!!!) and I recieved a Crusader and a Saracen to add to my collection. Here are some recent pics:

Mike,

Its looking amazing!!:cool::cool::cool: Really great work!! Now all you need to do is carry it in the sunshine on a hot summer day, and photograph it in the natural light, like Kevin (Panda1gen) did with my desert dioramas. It will look so real it will scare you!:D:cool:

It is true Mike you really should try...Good landscape BTW

This is very, very inspiring work! I would love to have the room to do this. I am going to have a go at making a diorama for my K&C UK Crimean War figures; I am taking on board what you are doing here.

Great stuff.

Jeff

Nice work in progress Mike. I enjoyed following your tips and I got my foam today so you are inspiring me to get going on a diorama. Now, I have to decide if I want a WWll scene or something different. I might start with a summer or fall scene and try a Bulge scene later. I hope I remember some of my earlier skills that I did in 1/35 scale. John

That's great John. Obviously to do a Euopean scene, I would recommend that you color the Celluclay with more earthier tones than the desert tones I used for my diorama. I look forward to seeing your work. Have fun.

Mike

I don't know if you seen my first attempt at a amateur diorama. Posted a couple of years ago. Unfortunately it did not work.:p I hope to try again. John:rolleyes::D
