The French are coming! (1 Viewer)

Aussie-
It occurs to me that I don't actually know much about John. Anyone have some background on him? Just curious how he got started, why the French-Indian war etc.
Combat,

Here is the info from his web page.

ABOUT JOHN JENKINS

Born in west Wales, John studied Fine Art at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

After graduating in 1984 John started a career in theatre design by moving to London where he designed for many of the smaller London theatre companies as well as working backstage in a variety of jobs in west end theatres. These ranged from Stage Electrician with English National Opera, prop maker, scenic carpenter, to scenic artist on 'Phantom of The Opera' .After 4 years, John move back to live in South Wales, where he worked as a freelance designer in Welsh language theatre and television.

In 1995 John emigrated to Canada where he continued to design, winning awards for his work on the following productions

VINCI by Maureen Hunter

OF MICE AND MEN by John Steinbeck

In 1998 john spent the summer working as a model maker in Toronto, with Brian Cole Models.

Do some surfing on his site. Lots of neat stuff, especially the "About" link. http://www.johnjenkinsdesigns.com/ And as Aussie Monty says, just email him. He responded to every email I have sent him and I have found him to be a great fellow.

I know he mentioned that he started when working in Canada- Toronto I think though he was in Edmonton at one point too.

I got some of his figures and to be honest I thought that they were perhaps the best I've seen. I dont get many collectable toy soldiers but I do get lots of other pre-painted figures etc and the level of detail on the JJ figs is stunning. Most companies that do prepaint are charged for each stage of painting and the JJ figures have more stages than I'm used to- and the paint is applied accurately to boot (no sliding eyes or sloppy mismatched lace). I too wouldnt be surprised if he had a higher cost associated with such a professional looking product. I dont know if that means he would 'make' less or more than others in this industry, but I know it prolly isnt 'buy a new BMW' type money when 250 sets at $70 USD only comes to $17K or so and the retailers and manufacturers need their fair share...

Ron,

If you are talking about a vote for the leader of the unofficial JJ fan club, yes there was a vote. I voted three times and it was a close run thing I only won by one vote, I could not make up my mind on who to vote for, me. me or me. The voting must of happen when you were away.

And as for you Sceic2, everyone on this side of the ocean knows gods an Aussie. About time you guys realized it and showed your leader some respect. :D Another new set of firing figures is an idea, but if it was me I would still want sets of the BM-01 & 02. Michael had any luck finding any more old JJ Frontline sets, I have had no luck on the ones you were looking for. The guy with the full sets has gone to ground on me, but I hope to flush him out next week.

On the subject of 250 sets as a number for set sizes. I to agree 250 sets is a great number. The problems is when I buy 200 sets it only leaves 50 sets for you guys. :p

Aussie Monty :)

Andrew

I have some absentee ballots from Bolivia that need to be counted...:D

John emailed me today to announce the French sets are packed and ready to go, so I sent him an order today. I expect to have stock by the end of the week; he also sent along some pictures, which I will post to my site asap.

Ron, I will have these at Annandale, so brace yourself............

The French are HERE.

John has sent me some photo's of the new French sets for June 2007.

QF-02 French Officer with Flag over shoulder

QF-03 French Officer/General

QF-04 French Drummer

QF-05 French Infantry Marching

QF-06 French Infantry Marching (in caps)

I will see if Brad can post the photo's.

Aussie Monty :)

And as for you Ron, the voting has closed, the count is complete and I am the king of the castle. :p

If there is any more descent from the ranks, there will be trouble, I will take my bat and ball (photo's) and go home and cry. :D

Look forward to seeing the pictures. What happened to QF-01?Is it going to be a figure Of Montcalm?

Sweet. Did JJ provide any info on production numbers for each set?

I received Andrew's emails and will post them as soon as I can.

Sirsydney,

The QF-03 maybe Montcalm, similar pose as QB-01 cane in hand and hat in hand saluting. But he may only be the an Officer of the line as per QB-05. QF-01 would have to be Montcalm, on a horse? But then who knows? John keeps very quite about future releases due to I think our friends at Frontline.

Combat,

I assume 750 sets of each as per QB series.

I will ask John these questions and for some details on the figures, Regiment and so on. I was just happy to get the photo's.:D

Anyone know were Brad is (why is he not at home waiting for my emails) :D , can anyone else down load photo's onto the forum for the new JJ figures for everyone. I can send them to you, just let me know a email address.

Wait on there he is, lucky he was going on report as missing in action.

Aussie-
I would guess QF-01 is Montcalm - I seem to remember a "death of" set being mentioned earlier. The Generals did not fare too well in this war did they! Thanks for all the updates.

Here are the photos. Sorry if they're a little small.

I've just received an e-mail from John Jenkins about some of the up coming releases (even if I'm not an officer in the JJ fan club):( and I can state that most peoples wish list will be filled. Yes Ron, even your request will happen but you must renounce NAPOLEON for the next few months :D. This line of figures will keep on getting better and better. Best regards.
Steve
