The Hateful Eight (2 Viewers)

John, no offence meant about the 9mm. I have owned and liked the Beretta. Currently, I only still have my father's WW2 M1911A1 and a Colt Detective Special in .38, both for home defense only. I much prefer the M1911A1 but the DS is much more compact, if needed.:wink2: -- Al

AL,

No offense taken my brother! No kidding you have your dad's ORIGINAL WW2 M1911A1? Man, that is special! And yes the ole snub nose .38...man that is a classic..a la Barney Miller...remember that show? I loved that show as a kid.

John,
My father was in USN Intelligence during the war, based on Bougainville and in Manila, amongst other places. His M1911A is a Colt manufacture, with a serial # that dates it to mid-1943. It is parkerized, with about 90% finish. It shoots well, is pretty tight, with no damage other than wear from my shooting it over the years. I don't shoot it anymore since I found out what it might be worth.:wink2:
Yes, I do remember Barney Miller. Also the old Hawaii 5-O's, with all their snub-noses, as well. -- Al

Finally got to watch it.

Typical Tarantino gorefest but nevertheless enjoyed it. Better half not so much :wink2:

Will be interesting to see what Tarantinos next subject will be.

Late to the party, as usual, but I finally saw this and enjoyed it quite a bit. Leave it to Tarantino to make a movie where you cringe at the language, violence, politics, and personalities. It was a real scream. -- Al

Probably August 1914 and May 1940 would have been somewhat different. eh.

The 1.82 firearms deaths per 100,000 population per year must be tourists.

The estimated total number of guns (both licit and illicit) held by civilians in Belgium is 1,800,000 to 2,000,000, or
17.22 firearms per 100 people. Of which only licensed gun owners in Belgium is 409,062.

John,
When I was stationed at Fort Carson in 93' I was issued a M1911A1 Colt 45. During pistol Qualification I remember you could sometimes see with the naked eye the
slug going down range. Around 94' we got the Beretta 9mm issued to Bradley crewmen. Missed that old 45. though.

Doubt you could carry that legally in most Australian states. In Australia a pointy stick is considered an offensive weapon and a sideways glance at a stocky, short haired woman in sensible shoes is just asking for trouble {eek3}

Mirof,

This is how you can roll in Texas.

But I have yet to see a hot mama like that running around town with a rifle like that. But, in Texas you can open carry if you have a license to do so. I find running around town with an M-16 now a days would be a little bit cumbersome. Plus, I wonder if these folks have their cars outfitted with a proper rifle rack to store their rifle. Probably not and they just throw them in the trunk. But, as you can imagine Texas is pretty gun happy state.

Now, in regards to the pocket knife...that'll do the job in most cases to get someone off of you. But, I learned in the military that you can make a grown man cry with an array of various mundane objects. My personal favorite is the No. 2 Pencil. Yes, the No.2 pencil can allow to go medieval on someone if you have too.

BLReed I agree with you on the stats from those guys. I think some hard numbers usually come out of the FBI national reports. But yeah the States has high numbers because we track EVERYTHING...I would bet that Mexico and some parts of Africa are higher. But they probably don't keep good records like we do on every little thing that has a weapon involved.

One of the neighborhood kids asked me point blank one time "So, how many guns do you have" after we picked him up to take him and my daughter to a Football Game. I was taken aback a little because it is not everyday that kids ask you what kind of arsenal you have in your crib...let alone an adult in a casual conversation. In fact, I find that question to be extremely personal and frankly non ya business. But, he probably was trying to impress my daughter or me to make conversation so I said I only have one. "One?" he said with exasperation. "Yeah one...and thats all I need". He went on to tell me that his dad had more guns, but his car had been broken into and they stole all his weapons. I asked him where did he have them and he told me "the trunk".
