the prequel to the Sopranos is being released in theaters on Oct 1st...
Michael Gandolfini...James Gandolfini's real life son...will play the young Tony Soprano...

Can't wait. Sopranos in my opinion the best TV show EVER.

agreed...the ending was abrupt...
I didn't care for it...
I got no closure...
they left me hanging...

the concerned glances from Tony at the sinister customer that walked by his table...
led me to believe he was a hitman...
I expected something to happen in the restaurant...
I watched it til the screen went black...
still expecting the customer would return and shoot Tony in the back of the head...
but it never happened...
and I felt like they left me begging for a 2 hour cinema conclusion...

but Gandolfini died shortly after that and I never got a conclusion to 6 years of my life spent watching the show...
I hate when the writers don't give me a definitive ending...

I read somewhere that the writers were gonna do that with Game of Thrones...
thankfully they didn't...

and thank God for Boardwalk Empire...it more than satisfied me...
gangster movies...I love them...at least we know how Nucky ended up...

What's annoying about the ending is it spawned all sorts of whacky theories as to what really happened, the most common one is the guy with the members only jacket was a hit man and the screen went black at the end as that is what Bobby told Tony that time on the boat "I think when you die, everything just goes black"........................more nonsense about the creator of the series wanted to leave it open ended.

Wrong.

A show like that need closure, not an open ended ending, that's just stupid.

Me too. Whenever I hear that song I think of The Sporanos. I have mixed feelings on the ending. On one hand I thought it was brilliant but on the other it does leave it open ended. Then Gandalfini dies and the saga had to end.
The night of the last episode I had to work so my wife taped it. I get home watched it and the screen turned black. I said my god my wife screwed up the tapeing! But no the credits then came on but for about 10 seconds I was going crazy.

Mike, from what I read Tony was shot in the back of the head. The last scene of his daughter was supposed to be what he last saw. But who really knows? Great show. Are prequels ever as good as the original? Chris

I saw the movie. Thought it was average, at best. If the movie was supposed to tell us how the young Soprano became Tony Soprano, it missed. Most of the movie is instead about Dickie Moltisanti, Christopher’s father and the movie turns into a white vs black thing. Even as a period piece about Newark it doesn’t give you a great idea about what Newark was like in the 60s.

I saw it too, agree with your assessment in a lot of ways. I think they may have done better as a limited series instead of cramming a 2 hr movie that meandered around. Of course I enjoyed it b/c I loved the original show, but again, it missed in a lot of ways. What it did do is motivate me to rewatch the first 3 eps of the show!!

This is a good read although you may not agree with it and apologies if it’s a little political.

“Why is Every Young Person in America Watching the Sopranos?”

The Show’s new audience is also seeing something different in it: a parable about a country in terminal decline.

Many thanks Brad, I managed to get hold of the article and read it all and thoroughly enjoyed it! ‘The Sopranos’ was/is one of the finest TV dramas ever.
Although I may not have agreed with all of the writer’s observations and points of views it was a great bit of writing.
Much appreciate the ‘heads-up’
Andy..

All the best
