The New Collector Magazine is on the website! (1 Viewer)

I thought it was a great publication, and enjoyed reading every page, even

though I had to squint as I read it online. I can't wait for my copy to arrive.

No one should feel left out, as everyone has a voice here on the Forum, and

Andy often acknowledges points made by individual collectors as he reads

the Forum.

The collectors chosen to contribute all offered unique perspectives and

qualifications few could match, and I was honored to even be mentioned in

Louis's post, a great compliment from a man that has given freely of his time

expertise, and collection to fellow collectors.

I can't imagine anyone feeling they have contributed more then people like

Bill Sager with his great website, or Alexdakar with his outstanding paint

work, step by step dioramas, and even his hobby room we all enjoyed

seeing.

Andy has his work cut out for him, and I think he made a great choice.

On top of that, why did Andy include Ken Osen and Rick Wang?

Well duh, obviously to show that even his competitors love K&C figures! And rightly so! :) It makes for nice advertising when your competitors praise your brand.

I don't think anyone would begrudge their inclusion. At least Ken and Rick have contributed their heart and soul to building this hobby, and opening it up to new collectors. They aren't just in it for the money, or the ego.

OUCH!! That's kind of harsh bud- and that's coming from me !!

One of the things I have found is that a lot of these guys have great respect for one anothers work- as with art in many other forums- there are musicians who enjoy other musicians work, painters, writers, this medium really isn't any different.

There is no doubt in my mind that Andy had put his life and soul into KC and has been very instrumental in making a lot of changes in the landscape of the hobby. I have a very very hard time believing that anyone in the last 25 years has given more to the hobby than Andy- if he isn't number one, he is in the top three.

Hi Guys,

We’ve seen several posts lamenting the fact that our friend Rob was not included or invited to participate in our special 25th Anniversary Issue. All of us at K&C consider Rob and many, many others on this Forum and among the K&C collecting fraternity as friends and I can assure everyone that his non-inclusion came as follows…

When we were planning this extra special issue, our team decided to compile a list of potential contributors. Emphasis was placed on ‘casting our net wide’ in order to include dealers… distributors… magazine editors… competitors and… most importantly… K&C collectors. Pretty quickly we came up with a list of over 100 names and, yes, Rob’s was one of those names. We whittled this down to almost 40 (and Rob was still there) and then we put the names in a hat and pulled out those that appeared in the final issue.

Of course we wish Rob had been included as well as the other deserving candidates… but that would have resulted in a book not a magazine and you would still be waiting for it!

So, apologies to our friends that alas did not make the final cut but no slight was intended… I’m sure we will work together sometime in the near future.

Best personal wishes and happy collecting… especially to Rob.

P.S. So, nobody was being ‘unfairly ignored’ and there’s really nothing to ‘deplore’.

WELL............:cool::cool:

H,

I'm trying to pick up the underlying message here, but your post is a bit subtle.
Any chance of spelling it out to those who aren't too good with the cryptic messages? :D

Simon I think-reading between the lines- that H is doubting the sincerity of the post but I could be wrong:D:D:D

Hi Chris, I never said it was Andy I was talking about here. People are free to draw their own conclusions about who is in this hobby for what reasons, from manufacturers down to collectors.

Now here we go yet another example of creeping Americanization of the Queen's English. I mean when Lizzie writes the word bo'''''' s in her diary she damm well spells it with a "ck" not a bloomin "X". For example when she says "you know Phil it is a load of b..... what they are saying about Prince Harry and that poor trash Colonial strumpet Chelsy. " she spells it properly man
Didn't you learn anything in school there Harry

As usual my S African friend - Brilliant satire....!!!! :D

You say your not saying that this is about Andy!!! yet your quote is on the K&C Collector thread. I must say that this would Imply that this who this is pointed at.

As a person who has newly known Andy over the years and watched my fathers relationship with Andy grow over the last 14 - 15 years. I for one cannot agree with your above comment. Andy brought the masses into the hobby with his range of new products all those years ago. I strongly believe that it has introduced new blood into the hobby that was dying a death. In fact literally that! a lot of collectors who were keeping it in 'the gang' are have and will be dying off leaving the hobby with what! A hobby where those in the know deal and trade with each other and snuff anything new! K&C was is a as are all the new business that are coming and come through a blast of fresh air.

Out of interest CS do you not work or worked for money!!!! or did you do you work for the hell of it! Rick is in it for the money and also (after hearing his great story in NY) to ensure that his father has a great business around a hobby that he enjoys. I don't know Ken well enough to comment for him.

We at K&C UK are always looking at ways to get new collectors into the hobby with a hell of lot of expenditure going into advertising in other areas and media other than the media that you have to be in the know to know!!

TSTV is reaching out to the masses and crossing a mass of different areas of the hobby. The toy Soldier show London the same now one of the best multi varied toy soldier hobby show around.

Andy lives and breaths toy soldiers and i know for one will be put out about what has been said.

What people think about me after many years in the corporate world i frankly don't give a shi...t but when something is said that is totally wrong i say my piece.

As i say it implys your comment is aimed at Andy if not then sorry.

First of all Tony, since you're a K&C employee, I know what you're trying to do here by changing the subject. It's called damage control. Unfortunately you won't be able to deflect people's mounting displeasure with Praetorian's patronization and certain aspects of the 25th Anniversay issue in general by trying to turn the spotlight on little old me. :)

I did not mean Andy when I wrote that particular statement. Elementary logic says I cannot be talking about Andy. The discussion here was about who was chosen BY ANDY to write an article in the 25th Anniversary issue. Obviously since Andy owns and publishes the K&C Collector magazine, I think it's a given he would choose himself to write an article in his own magazine, since he and his wife founded the company in the first place.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Brad asked me pointedly why Ken and Rick were chosen to write an article. I replied that their inclusion is hard to argue with since they have certainly contributed to growing the hobby. However, as most people know but will not openly say, not everyone who wrote an article in the 25th issue has had such an unambiguously positive effect on the hobby. And again, I'm obviously not talking about Andy.

First of all Tony, since you're a K&C employee...

Just to clarify, K&C UK is an independent dealer, just as Treefrog or Sierra or any other dealer are. They may share a name and sell exclusively K&C, but they are not one and the same.

Understood Peter, thanks. But nevertheless, since they happen to share the K&C name, sell only K&C products, film the special messages from Andy in Hong Kong, and as stated above are best friends with the owner, the connection is much stronger than being just another dealer. One can define "employee" quite broadly.

Funny how a completely random draw just happens (by coincidence of course!) to include ALL the other big names of the K&C "insider circle" of special best pals.

My point was that it wasn't just an insider circle as it includes Rick Wang and Ken Osen. Although some of the people in there may be very friendly with Andy, I don't believe you can say that about these two gentlemen.

Also, who are the people you think are the "insider circle"?

Isn't this silly? Andy publishes a nice issue of Collector to celebrate his
25th Anniversary if I'm not mistaken he paid to have this published.

Did I miss something? Did he take up a collection? Did he sell shares and is his operation now public?

It would seem that he should be able to invite whomever he likes to contribute to this issue.

Okay if you are a King & Country fan you are going to enjoy reading information explaining how we got to our present position.

If you do not like King & Country you are going to find fault in everything the do and say. Why not just go to the part of the Forum you enjoy and be positive?

I wonder.....when these folks go into a restaurant do they order food they hate......so they can complain?

I wouldn't be suprised.:D
