The Spanish Civil War (1 Viewer)

Re: JJ/BSP Debut

Thank you men...OK lets get into this a bit more !

John was very helpful with the "Climate Aspect". We are trying not only to bring accuracy to the composition, but also bring accuracy to the enviornment. If you want to do scenes right you can't use the same formula in all of your pics....I was personally working on this, and John helped me tremendously. He suggested bright sun and strong shadow for these scenes. All scenery was scratch built by BSP, and some accessories were modified and weathered.

Re: JJ/BSP Debut

To me this hobby goes beyond collecting and modeling. Researching for this project and other projects we have done or are doing, has been an rewarding experience.

Nick and I knew nothing about the Spanish Civil War, with the research we have done and speaking to John we now see how it ties into WWII.

Lets take another look at the scene.

Re: JJ/BSP Debut

We always admired Johns creations, but we were not familiar with the era of many of his products. Once we were made aware of the connecton of the SCW to the early stages of the German War Machine we now had a connection and purchased our first JJ products.

There is also another area of interest to us and that will be the theme of our next JJ Scene

The contest begins now. What is the theme of our next JJ Scene.

This is an excellent dio. Very atmospheric and the foliage and lighting are just outstanding. Brilliant use of the superb JJD 109 and figures. Just very different. {bravo}} -- Al

As most of you know there is always some controversey surrounding BSP.....So when we decided we wanted to do a SCW scene we did something we never did before, we asked the manufacturer (JJD) if it was OK (We had met John at the Hackensack, NJ show). He said it would be fine, and he actually wanted to participate in the creation of the scene. So at least we had the peace of mind of knowing we wouldn't be blindsided by some unforseen anomaly.

No manufacturer had ever approached us in this manner before, and we were taken back a bit.....Well as they say things happen for a reason....... Several chats I had with John were so inspiring and it was interesting to step outside our usual way of doing things and be influenced by, in my opinion, a true artist. We feel as though BSP has improved from this experience, and we thank John for his time and interest.

The proof to us is the use of the word ATMOSPHERIC above. Scenes need composition and theme which we thought we did well, but I had been looking to improve my atmospherics and John was of great assistance. Alex

A different prospective

Re: JJ/BSP Debut

Well this has been a lot of fun, Nick and I really enjoyed the change of pace, so we will end this here, there are a few more pics on our website. We will continue with the SCW theme in the future, but we are even more interested in the release we will be doing on Wednesday and we will more vigorously continue that theme

So lets see what Wednesday brings. If anyone cares to guess the theme we are still game to give the Lest They Me forgotton DVD to the winner. Alex

Re: JJ/BSP Debut

My guess is Knights of the Skies.... Who made that building?

Re: JJ/BSP Debut

The wood one- looks like either Frontline or Nick Cameron from Crown Military Miniatures....

That is a Frontline building which we weathered and built the deck for, out of balsa wood to resemble the Pilots quarters seen in the Condor Legion. Alex

The attention to detail is simply outstanding. Particularly like where the low wall is broken and the interior appears different than the exterior. Any info or hints on the building construction would be appreciated. Are they foam? Is the roof, Hirst Art? When you see comments on the JJD armor, you often see people expressing appreciation for the weathering -- very evident here.

Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the post.

Buildings: We usually build our own, but lately to save time, we are buying inexpensive Hobby Bunker buildings and modifying them. The building in the pic is a modified HB building. I believe it is an Alamo structure. We made the roof with straws, cutting them and fitting them into each other then covering them with a paint and spackle mix. The logs are twigs from the back yard ( You cant see them in this pic).

JJD Armour: John is a master sculptor his AFV's are possibly the best in the business. We are bugging him to do WWII stuff, but because he sculpts everything himself, that would be on the back burner.

The painting is excellent, but we did do additional weathering on this tank. We will make it a WWII Russian tank when this scene is done. Actually we removed the markings already before we decided to do this scene. His stuff fits with FL Figures which we intend to use with this tank.

We are doing a major overhaul on our website, which will include building tips. The new site will launch in mid January www.battlesceneproductions.net
