Include me in with John, Ray and Michael. Thanks to ebay I continue with my toy soldier collecting and have met a few new contacts/friends.

I am all in favour of eBay and people have a right to sell an item on eBay for whatever price they wish. However forum members also have a right to express their opinion on the pricing of those items which is what is happening on this thread.

My personal view regarding E-bay has been to "boycott" any auction regarding K/C products in which a seller attempts to inflate prices beyond reason or manipulate availability of items......"Investors" who purchase multiples and horde products in the hopes of funding their future purchases by inflating prices to "crazy" levels may be surprised to find that most collectors are not that easily fooled by these tactics........Sellers are free to charge what they wish but most buyers have more savy then some of these sellers think.........BUYERS BEWARE ON E-BAY........regards to all Vezzolf

Interesting, and who decides what is a "reasonable" price? I doubt most sellers have the ability to "control" availablility of an item since it is the manufacter who decides production. And what about the long retired items that suddenly appear from "certain dealers" (our hosts not included as they frequently offer aquired collections to Forum members at reasonable prices) these other dealers are not shy about seeking what would be "inflated" prices considering their reduced costs.

The truth is, buyers and sellers will usually determine "fair prices" bases on condition, reputation of seller, availability of item, method of payment available, shipping details ect.

I do not understand those that attempt to "moralize, or influence" the rights of others in a free market society.

Some collectors don't have deep pockets, to keep up some get a second job, some work overtime. A few either sell items they are tired of, or take a chance and buy a spare (at full retail) its their choice.........and I say good for them!

I don't bid on anything difficult or safe to pay for.

I don't bid on items from certain countries that charge excess shipping fees.

I don't bid on items from certain dealers who use Ebay to really rip off some folks.

But this is my opinio, and I keep it to myself, because other people may find conditions I don't approve of acceptible, so they are free to excercise their choices without me pointing out..........what? My displeasure with something they are happy about?

One man hates, fish, one man loves fish.........whos right?

I understand what you are getting at John. However some collectors just don't know what is overpriced on eBay and what isn't. The fact that someone can afford an eBay item listed well above the average selling price doesn't mean they would pay that amount if they knew better.

In forums like this all collectors have the opportunity to read more experienced opinions about pricing etc. If they then choose to pay an above average price, at least they have made an informed decision rather than bidding in ignorance.

NJJA.
Was the French connection set in New York or New jersey. I don't wish to upset anyone but what is the difference between New York and New Jersey. I know that Bruce Springsteen comes from New Jersey and that is good enough for me.

Two really great areas of the USA!

French Connection was set in New York City........of course guys from Jersey were involved.

New York (the city) is the economic capital of the US. It has everything, great shopping, restaurants, broadway theaters, the stock exchange, great museums legal drinking at 18, clubs, it is a true cultural center.

New Jersey is just across the river, legal drinking is 21 so you can just picture the traffic from quiet New Jersey across the river to the clubs of NY.

New York has the sports teams......Giants & Yankees.......of course the Giants Stadium is in New Jersey.......Yankee's may move there also.

New Jersey has the most beautiful seashore you could imagine......New York has Long Island.....the Hamptons.....basicly for the ultra rich, and Coney Island for everyone else.

New York has the mafia......opps sorry that really doesn't exist.....but if it did many of the "guys" would live in or be from Joisey.

A lot of people from different places might think there is a rivalry between New York and New Jersey but not that I have ever seen.

I was born and raised in New Jersey, I have not lived there for 31 years but I am heading back, cause I'm from Joisey, always will be, will be buried in New Jersey......and my teams are the Yankees, and the New York Giants, cause New York is my city........I think thats how most Jersey guys see it.

Two different places.......one state of mind.

There is something objectionable when you see a summer panther , which is not retired ,available at a list price of $109, being started off at $175 with a buy it now price of $350... I'm all for the free market and dealers dealing in retired items , but this type of selling is a bit "iffy" on some level, even taking the buyer beware axiom into account...

Not quite correct. French connection involved guys from Queens or Brooklyn.

It's just like the arrogance of the Yankee fan to only mention the Yankees. The New York Mets also play in New York, not Jersey. The New York Jets (as woeful as they are) also play football in New Jersey. The area also has three hockey teams and two basketball teams. Also, the Yankees have broken ground for a new stadium in the Bronx. Thank god they won't be moving here. The Yankees not in the Bronx: unthinkable.

That's the problem exactly, preying on unsuspecting buyers.

Brad:

Of course you are correct, there are of course many other sports teams in the Metro Area also.

When I mentioned the Yankees, and the Giants.....I was speaking of the Professional Sports teams...........which is why I left out the Jets and Mets.

Like I said, the arrogance of the Yankee fan :)

Hi Guys,

You guys kill me this is a great thread and all of a sudden there is a disgruntled Mets Fan who just has to drop the Yankee fans are rude blah blah blah! Brad you sound like my brother in law the Met fan disguised as a Red Sox fan who cant even be graceful when his team wins. If you want to see rude fans take a look at all the friendly Boston Fans...

Otherwise this is a very interesting discussion of free market tactics.

All the best

Dave

Well, I wasn't the one who raised the issue or left out the other NY teams and with all due respect unless you live in this area you don't really understand the nature of the Yankee fans so I exempt out Yankee fans who are not from this area or have lived in this area. BTW, I'm not disgruntled and I don't recall saying they're rude, although many are (just like a fan of any other team, mine included).

BTW, I love Sox fans. Now, if you want to see bad fans, just look southward to Philadelphia. There was an article in either SI or the Times this week about how bad the Philly fans treat opposing players when they're visiting.

How does it feel Dave to know that the best you're going to do this year is compete for the wild card and with Detroit improving and Cleveland being what it is, you might be home watching the playoffs again? :D:D

Ha Ha!....Moderators at 12 paces....:D:D:D

Being English I haven't a clue what you lot are at, but it sounds like fun
