I was just wondering, on this wonderful military history oriented forum, how many people have served, are serving, or have plans to serve (for those younger members) in their country's armed forces.^&confuse

Thank you to all who have/are serving!:salute::

Please select branch and place of habitation. Feel free to post what you did, your rank, or any other items!

Hi Sandor,

Whats up with forgetting the Armor Branch? I served 20 years both active and reserves. I also went to Norwich which wasnt technically a Service Academy but at the time of my Commisioning we were given the same priority as West Point for Active Duty unless we stated otherwise. Dont think thats the case anymore. Ah the good old days...

Hi Sandor,

Why don't you change Mechanized to Armor? Armor is a branch in the U.S. Army whereas Mechanized is not.

Oops! As I was putting mechanized, I was thinking armor, so sorry about that- I guess I was saving the best for last, and forgot about it{sm4}

Hi Grognard- never knew you served! I guess I always imagined you as a bit younger^&grin.
But thank you all again for your service, with a shout out to Obee and Grognard for their respective branch/county of service{sm4}.

Hi Sandor,

Thanks for setting up an interesting poll. As others have said, it is rather incomplete not to have Armour (Armor) included.

In most armed forces, tank units are classified as armour, not mechanised. The term mechanised is generally applied to the vehicular transport of infantry (not otherwise specified). The vehicles can be either soft skinned/non-tracked, light armour/tracked or combinations thereof.

There is considerable variation between countries/armed forces as to the application of the terms mechanised infantry versus armoured infantry. This can be discussion unto itself and one that is never ending, so I say no more.

Can one of the Mods help out and add in Armor (Armour) please ? Thanks.

I enlisted in the U.S. Army in late October with the MOS of 11X Opt. 40 (Basic Infantryman, Ranger Opt.) and ship out for OSUT in late July. My older brother is in his final year of ROTC, and has been assigned to the Ordinance branch with assignment to EOD. My father was an airborne ranger infantry officer who served in Operation(s) Just Cause, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. So yes I would put myself in the category of planning to serve!

Cheers!

"have never served, and do not plan to." and I'm NOT bragging about it.

"have never served, and do not plan to." and am not insisting you or your kids do either.
