Dear Collectors,

First of all, thank you for your support these past 5 years as we celebrated our 5th anniversary this year in Chicago. For those of you who attended our lunch with Figarti event, I hope you had as much fun as I did and it was great to see all of you.

This year's show was a bit different due to the hotel renovations but given the circumstances, I actually prefer the set up we had. For those of you who could not make the trip, we decided to spend the extra money to set up a room downstairs on the ground floor displaying alongside our distributor Hobby Bunker as well as St. Petersburg. Because of the larger display area, we were able to also provide sofas for people to just hang out. I liked it.

The lunch event has become our major focus in Chicago as we now struggle every year planning how to top the previous year. This year, it was particularly hard and after USC lost the night before, I wasn't in the best mood as you can imagine. But, as they say, the show must go on!

Last year, the B17 was meant to be a shock and awe item but the markings on the shipment boxes gave it away early as it was carried into our room, good thing the E-boat had no markings. So this year.... we marked the shock and awe item with simply U-BT(A), U-BT(B) and we carried those boxes into our rooms in broad daylight. When there were whispers of the "U-Boat" in the hallways, I knew our plan was working. When setting up our lunch event, I decided to use 2 E-boat boxes and line them up on top of the table and cover it with black cloth. Because of the length, it would appear to show a 1/30 scale U-Boat underneath. Anyway..... I had a lot of fun and hope the surprise factor was there!

The K-5 is really something that came out of forums from collectors such as yourself. But Desk11Desk12 was the one who really pushed the concept through. Clive (Our UK/Europe Distributor) and I actually talked about this particular piece at the Nuremburg toy fair early this year but it wasn't until May that we decided to do it.

Our "Monty" was planned from a question asked during the NY Symposium last year which was "Who Was The Greatest General?" Why this question, because I was told (and I have witnessed) that Louis would get all worked up about this question and just having him worked up was well worth doing this piece! :D Thanks to Hans and Larry:).

Overall, I felt attendance was a bit down from previous years and I guess given the hotel situation, weather, and overall economy, this is what it is. But the enthusiasm was as great as before and it was really nice to see familiar faces and friends. Andy and I had time to chat about this industry and I personally look towards his leadership especially in the next couple of years when we are faced with the bigger economic concerns. I invited (Gordon) K&C, John Jenkins, (Brian) Collector's Showcase to our lunch event and my thought on this was that we may be competitors, but the industry too small not for us to come together and share ideas on how to make the hobby more fun and interesting. I am hoping for a joint seminar type session at Chicago next year where we get major brands together and like a panel set up, meet collectors and answer questions, show new products, share new ideas, come together as an industry.

5 years, time really flies, but you know what, of all my business, Figarti brings me the most joy and I have made some very good friends (SC in particular). For 2009, I hope we can continue to show you our commitment to the hobby. Below are some photos from the lunch event in Chicago, thank you all for your support!

Hey Rick, thanks for producing a good range of no nonsense models. I especially like the K5 and it's a reasonable price imo but the additional costs would make it to expensive downunder unless you can do some deal with the Australian dealer. Speaking of dealers, I am having some discussions with my 'Bolivia connection' to import a K5 via South American where a value added substance could be stashed into the canon shells to help defray import costs. ;)

Hi Rick,

Just wanted to say i've been so impressed with Figarti's new stuff. The Tanks are so good and your figures improve with every release.I think the two fig set of the 8th Army guy dragging his officer is a classic example, drama and realism together. Thanks very much and hope to see you in London again soon.

Best wishes

Rob

I too have been blown away with the quality and detail of all of your pieces. Figarti has a bright future ahead and will be around for a long time.

P.S could you plan next years lunch on a weekend day so I can attend because I have to go to school.

I really like the looks of the new Fiechlerstorch. Sounds like a good deal on pricing from what I heard from a couple of people.

Rick - I had an interesting conversation with Tim Tyler today about Figarti and how far your company has come over the last five years. It truly amazes me when I think of your first tanks, AFV's and figures , compared to where you are today. I was blown away with the Monty and M3 Tanks you guys did. I have ordered them both and am looking forward to getting them.

You really have set the bar high on these items. Keep up the fine work!
We look forward to seeing you and your team in Chicago next year.

Thank you again for the chance to win the special v-2 rocket your Dad had signed . It is displayed in Adam's room. He is real proud of it.

Take care and best wishes...

its gonna be a long 2-3 months wait for the fantastic looking Panzer IV Auf J.

congrats Rick, you put up 1 hell of a show.

Rick,

Fantastic time provided by Figarti in Chicago, to say I was a kid in a candy store is an understatement! It was great visiting with you as always and I have not forgotten about your Bataan Gun, I am still locating the second one!

This was my second Figarti luncheon and I have enjoyed both very much. I love the "shock and awe" - the big boxes were a great touch! You seemed to be having a lot of fun with this (which is as it should be).

I'm looking forward to the M31 recovery vehicle. I had bought an old Monogram M3 to modify in 1/32nd scale - you are saving me a lot of work.

Rick

The luncheon looked like a great time for all. Hopefully, next year - I will be able to attend and enjoy the next round of "SHOCK & AWE".

I personally want to support the making of the Desert Storch - Figarti has an opportunity to pick up a great market share with the WARBIRDS under $300 - this market is big in my opinion and people would collect polystone planes like crazy if offered.

In this economy and the future of higher taxes - I believe the big end items will move very slow - don't get me wrong, all of them look great ! - but, the average collector is streching his budget and making decisions on cost like never before. I do hope you keep building the "BIG and BEAUTIFUL" - but, take a look at this opening in the WARBIRD market.

Look forward to meeting you in person soon.

Regards, Ron

Rommel's Storch would be a great addition to the Figarti range, especially with a clear canopy. And then, a Glider or two, and then, a DC-3/Dakota, and then.........;)

Seriously, make the lunch on a weekend day so I can come (please, pretty please). It looked like a blast and I don't want to have to miss it next year. Hopefully there will be two young collectors on the floor instead of one next year.

The Lunch with Figarti was originally on Saturday, but Rick told me it was switched to Friday so collectors had more time to examine the "Shock and Awe" stuff in the rooms after it was introduced.:)
