Thank you for your response. Guess that I will sign up for the CC pretty soon too.
Hope you will all have a roaring good time with Andy & company over the weekend.
The Battle of the Red Cliff (and hence the 2 part, 280min plus movie released in 2008/9) covers a huge battle, where the 3 main factions actually clash in the period preceding and following the Han dynasty collapse. The entire period of conflict leading to the demise of the Han dynasty, from about 180 to 280 AD form the chronicles known popularly as the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms in Chinese literature.
In essence, the Red Cliff battle was the highlight of the 3 Kingdoms tales. It was the only time all 3 factions meet in battle but it was not the only compelling story from that whole period. Coincidentally, the 3 Kingdom period also parallels the peak of the Roman empire in the West, which is equally fascinating.
The 3 Kingdoms TV series, that I captioned below, is a 95 episode 70 plus hr series released in May 2010 and which has generally been well received by China and international audiences. An English sub-titled version with scrolling background facts ... is now available on DVD. This provides many more important and colorful historic characters than the Red Cliff movie, such as Lu Bu (the Darth Vader of his time) and Sima Yi, the strategist behind the ultimate succeeding Wei dynasty.
