I was charged import duty for the first time, buying from TSRARE in Italy and sending to me in the UK. With all the charges it now makes it not economical to buy from them anymore when compared with buying in the UK, i had a 27% Duty/Tax rate [which included the admin fee], if the Duty/Tax rate has been pre paid then it would still have been 20%.

TSRARE offer a great service and i have nothing but praise for them, may still be buying from them, as they do have some discontinued sets which are hard to find but will not be the 6 or 7 times a year basis i am currently buying.

Will continue to buy but as with all of us i have a budget so just a figure or so less per month, but such is life and the country, narrowly, did vote to leave the EU.

I have no problem paying the import duty and have when i bought from HK or the US. i was in the military and have worked in the public sector and my salary has come from taxes so a bit hypocritical to complain about taxes, i guess it the old addage, once you have had something free, it hurts more when you have to pay for it.

Not good news for TSRare/Saimex either I'd hazard a guess. The 20% up front extra certainly will make me think twice about ordering from them too, I'm loathed to say and guess will put them on a par with UK dealers prices.

Nope definitely not good news for collectors or dealers /Sellers in EU alike.

Steve

you can still order stuff from Tsrare/Saimex and ask them to deliver it at the next toy soldier show. I have. so no taxes or postage!

I think its happening everywhere now actually. Ebay recently tried to charge me GST (Goods and Services Tax) on an item I purchased online from the US and had shipped back to NZ.

Bloody cheek given GST is a New Zealand tax and is based on the value of the goods purchased so ebay was trying to collect tax on behalf of the NZ Govt.

Me too, but they were great and stuff arrived within a 4 to 5 days after ordering, will still look as he does have rare stuff.

I have to point out this was not ebay. I received the item and then 3 days later i received a letter from FEDEX with a bill.

Short follow up question - has anyone else in the UK had to pay these fees from TSRARE? Just trying to figure out if this will be done on everything or will it be a bit hit and miss?

I have the same problem in the other direction, I bought many K&C stuff in UK (most Ebay), big collector base for this stuff, Germany is more a land of train and cars collector, less toy soldiers or airplanes, I guess.
Since UK left EU, I don't buy something in UK because the delivering cost and tax makes the price to high.
I don't offer things on Ebay for UK, because of the ebay cost structure that you must pay fees on delivering too (EU delivering (max. 5kg) 16 Euro, UK now 26 Euros and special fees, because UK is outside of EU.
Buying in a UK shop is sometimes better, the can deduct the english tax before selling so you must pay the tax not twice but you must pay in any cases tax on the delivering costs.

I think it’s hit and miss. I had an order from TSR about a fortnight ago with no extra customs, handling etc.

Was only €40 but I don’t think the value is relevant??

This was the third recent order, first in mid June [Warpark+JJ], second mid July [K &C and JJ], with the third being last week [just JJ], all between £150 and £200. It was a bit of a surprise to get the letter a few days after the sets had arrived. Was going to place another order for a couple of K & C and JJ Aztecs, as the K & C are older sets quite cheap and can never have enough Spanish/Aztecs, may still do for a punt, as they are still a little cheaper than UK and the K & C are not on open sale anymore. Plus UK ebay is a bit dull, not a lot of new stuff for sale [mean new stuff on there], just people re-uploading stuff or people asking 'Harrod' prices.

I have bought from K & C direct 3 or 4 times in the last 5 or 6 months [$ to £ exchange rate makes it worth it at the minute] and not been hit once.

I’d never bought direct from K&C until last month but had an order of mainly Australian Light Horse just over $250 (free p&p) come though with no extra charges........less than 5 days from order to delivery as well which is outstanding. Hopefully have another parcel next week of WW1 Tommies so fingers crossed that comes though under the radar as well :)

I feel your pain, for us it is like a self inflicted wound.

You're lucky, I'm still waiting for my order.

I order a fair bit from TSRARE/Saimex and I have never had to pay any taxes/fees - so far! But I have had to pay taxes/fees from other EU destinations so its only a matter of time or value before they are caught too...
