Saw it last yesterday and it was great. Plenty of action. Heard one F-word, no nudity and no blood. My wife and daughters loved it. Simon (Wraith) would really enjoy it.

I've never even seen the original being no fan of Tom Cruise. There seems to be an insatiable nostalgia for all things culturally 80s-related. Maybe because it was the last time frame before cell phones and the Internet. The folks who were kids and teenagers during that time period are also at the upper end of their earning potential and driving this trend. Try buying a collectible Stephen King book. It will cost you big money even when you get a rare opportunity to buy it. Gone in seconds at hundreds or thousands of dollars. Stranger Things set in the 80s is the most popular show on Netflix etc.

Apparently it isnt doing much for military recruiting as it did in the 8os,,The army especially is almost critically short ,,besides being stripped of javelin's,,sams etc,,,not to mention the euros doing almost nothing in the great war effort,,,

Throw in the decline of physical fitness among younger people who spend most of their time on games and cell phones. More and more of them are living at home indefinitely and not even learning to drive. They are having a difficult time finding anyone who can meet the minimum standards. The age of idiocracy. "Idiocracy" is a wildly underrated and funny movie that was made before its time. Some sad truths that have come to pass.

Among the many ironies behind the box office failure of "Idiocracy" was that its audience was too dumb to get the jokes. The jokes were actually on them. The movie studios were also apparently uncomfortable with its satire about advertisement saturation. Everyone over the age of 30 can empathize with the main character who finds himself in a world overrun by incompetents.

Back to the topic of the movie itself, my wife, son and I enjoyed it last night. Lots of good flying sequences which were filmed using actual F-18s (and CGI). Of course there were a lot of implausible scenes as well, but hey it's a movie. The tactic for destroying an enemy target was right out of the original Star Wars movie. Give it 4 stars for being a straight out old fashioned action movie. Chris

I loved the new movie for what it was and the same goes for the 80s version, pure escapism and a bit of fun nothing more and a great sound track......
