A few thoughts some personal, and some as the administrator,
I have been following this thread with interest as people have been giving their impressions of Toy Soldier Collector Magazine.
First of all my personal opinion of Toy Soldier Collector Magazine is that they have great pictures and I learn a lot about smaller British manufacturers. I like the uncluttered layout and overall contemporary feel of the magazine, I think it is definitely aimed at the European market and while it has North American subscribers the focus is on European collectors.
When I'm on my computer I do not have time to seek out information about small European toy soldier companies (unless I'm specifically looking around for a new line to add to Treefrog Treasures), or to read up on my toy soldier history--I've got the forum to run, emails to answer and website work to do. So I really enjoy the trade magazines like TSC and TS&MF because I can page through them at my leisure, away from the computer and enjoy the slick graphics and varied articles I find in them. Obviously unless they were published daily like a newspaper (or an online forum

) , they don't have breaking news but the news they include is pertinent to the hobby and I read it to make sure I haven't missed anything.
I agree toy soldier collecting magazines are pricey but unlike most magazines these contain quality content rendering each issue important and valuable enough to keep for future reference instead of just a quick read and into the recycling bin and that counts for a lot too.
Secondly, a rule of thumb about politics on the forum...simply put...if I as the administrator can tell by your postings who you would vote for in the next election, your postings are too political. This goes for everyone whether you are a citizen of that country or not. I
really don't want to know your political leanings and in general I don't think other board members should know your political views either. Most people feel very strongly about their political views and have very little use for those with opposite leanings. Why bring that onto the board? It is much easier to like and respect other board members if you are not, in the back of your mind, thinking they are idiots for being too far to the right or the left for your liking.
It's our job as the administrator and moderators to see that politics stay off the board and political figures aren't trashed here--the point of the board is the toy soldier hobby, not political debates. It is also our job to be fair and impartial and to see that, in the case of the upcoming US election for example, candidates or politicians from both sides are equally 'protected' from derisive posts. There shouldn't
be any posts about politicians in the first place so don't get mad if your post gets deleted. Bottom line is I don't want to see posts about current political figures on the board. There are plenty of political forums to discuss politics (and see firsthand the virtual fistfights that inevitably break out) but let's keep this forum about toy soldiers. Feel free to discuss politics in private messages, just keep the politics out of the public areas of the board.
There are some hot topics regarding the price of gas, the economy, taxes, etc. I'm not saying people aren't free to discuss this areas of concern (under the miscellaneous category) but can it be done without politics creeping into the discussion and finger pointing at specific political parties? That remains to be seen.
And finally, (without sounding too political) I don't think the American economy is in the tank and doomed to destruction. We're experiencing a bit of a trying time and things are a bit tenuous, but 'this too shall pass.' I read a great quote yesterday. "This is not a bad day. This is a bad moment in a good day." I think that's a great way to look at life--not quite Pollyanna, but definitely with an eye to a better future.
I'd say, well, that's my two cents' worth but I think I've given you at least 4 cents' worth

.
Best regards,
