I have just found out that the most recent Magazine #248 will NOT be printed and they are moving on. I am really NOT happy about this as 248 had the Gordon N. (K&C) Tribute in it and would have liked to have the formal magazine. I really think they should have reconsidered this. I subscribe to the PRINT version, not the digital. I think this is a bad decision.

Same issue I have Tom, I called and e-mailed them at least twice but they will not print it. I hope that #249 will be printed.
Also tried to print #248 using online publishing services but it will not work due to the cost and the paper size.

Seems like you will all have to show your disapproval by cancelling your subscription !!!!

I cancelled mine a long time back because of the way it had gone.

The other way is end a 'Letter to the editor' and challenge him to publish it !!!
Also post it here and see what happens?

Seems like these magazines will save some money if they only go digital and don't have no printed versions but it sure doesn't reduce the price of subscriptions.

This is yet another example of how modern technology takes over and shoves the average person aside.

Several of my older customers subscribe to the magazine, they love sitting down, thumbing through it, reading the articles and making note of new items coming down the pipeline that they will want.

I run an advert in the magazine and I've gotten phone calls (remember those; you know, when someone actually picked up a phone and called another human being) from people regarding the content of the ad and can they preorder such and such item.

If they are no longer going to do a print version, I am done running my ad then, end of story.

The vast majority of the people mentioned do not own computers; if I am not mistaken, 70% of the population do not own computers, that may not be true, thought I read that somewhere.

Again, more and more things are going digital; paying bills, the newspaper, magazines, concert/sporting event tickets, even Dunkin Donuts now when you have a rewards card and you got to a certain point value, on the receipt a free beverage coupon would pop up.........now you need to download the DD app and the coupon comes to you that way, you show it to the clerk on your IPhone, they scan it and you get your free beverage.

Again; the AVERAGE person is getting left in the dust with the continued push towards digital everything.............ok, rant off..........................

I would imagine/hope that the editor of the magazine is a member here and can read the comments.
I would be surprised if he is not!

I have every issue of this magazine from number one to 247 in my library in their Binders. A great reference source if looking for something old. I have always taken great pleasure in sitting down in a comfortable chair with a nice single malt and reading the new issue when it arrives from cover to cover. Whilst I have also every issue of the competitions magazine The TS Collector, I find TS&MF a much more enjoyable read.

I am not a fan of this digital nonsense. It may be OK for some folks, but being old school, I am in total agreement with Tom in that the PRINT version is all that I subscribe for. If this magazine is going to go digital then I will be cancelling my subscription. I would ask the Editor, where is my Issue No. 248 that I have paid for????

I agree, I've tried reading books on my note pad, never got past the first few chapters, just not the same as an actual book.

Seems a shame that the printed version is going away. Do they at least offer a pdf so you can print it out? Not saying this is better but at East it could be printed off,

I guess it's inevitable Dave, it's so much cheaper to produce media on line compared to printing, and of course you save millions of trees each year. I used to use my printer a lot, especially when studying for my degree, there was actually a local store that just sold replacement ink in bottles, they were always busy.

However the major companies soon worked out they could make some easy money by using smart printers that rejected generic ink cartridges then selling replacement 'authorized' branded ink for outrageous prices. Now it's cheaper to buy a new printer than a pack of branded ink refills, just crazy and should be stopped as it must be against the law somehow.

From the magazine's US office:

Thank you for your email. Yes, Issue 248 was released digitally only due to problems caused with print and distribution because of COVID. We have sent Issue 249 to print a little over a week ago so it should be with our subscribers very soon.
Kind regards,

I don't know why they can't go back and print 248 now that they are printing again.

Mark mate,
I totally agree with your post. Even if they just printed enough copies of 248 to cover their subscription customers. As Tom mentioned in the first post of this thread there was an article on the passing of young Gordon Neilson of K&C in this issue which I would dearly love to have in my TS&MF Library.

Cheers Howard

I fully agree with you all...I still loved reading and going over the pages of the real thing...
Just out of curiosity I went to the publishers page to check what the annual digital subscription would be, and guess what...60 pounds sterling is the price tag...already applied a " staggaring 2 % " discount over monthly digital cost....60 pounds to sit behind a pc and do all the editing and press a button to send the finished edition not to the print shop and later to the postal service, but to your e-mail address.....with that money they could have kept the hardcopy option...they could even still choose to maintain the printed version as in the past, where we could chose to go one way or the other.......
Well that is just bad news....
Cheers

No 249 yet, I don't understand *** is going on. I am still really pissed about Issue 248. They should have printed it. Complete and utter BS. What I find funny is if you go there to buy an individual issue - go to 248 and it says Print Run sold out. HORSECRAP, there never was a print run.

Go Tom mate, bring it on,

A nice bit of passion in this thread is great. I am still waiting for my PRINT copy of Issue 248 and heaven knows what happen to Issue 249. Now all I need is my good mate George (Warrior) to jump on this thread and show his great enthusiasm for a battle of an injustice landed on regular subscribers.

Cheers from the Land Down Under, Howard
