Toy Soldier Pricing.....How Much Is Too Much ? (2 Viewers)

I can see you are peeved. I think the caveats were said in order to look non partisan. I agree that the price issues are almost at each end of the scale with, many very well priced sets are on the market and, are often overlooked . I buy a loy of Historex, Tradition, andrea et al kits which, are very good value for money even when they are bought painted. My only point here is that when these threads start they always, whether intentional or not, gyrate around K&C and spread to other 1/30th manufacturers.

It would indeed be a nice change to have an all encompassing look at prices but, I don't believe many matt collectors are all that interested. sadly.

Even though it is suppose to be non-partisan I think you can see from the first post who was being referred to.There are many different types of toy soldiers but the price increase threads are almost always about the matte lines.If you collect other types then this shouldn't affect you.If you are a matte collector then the increases are a great concern..Every month there are price increases on the new releases followed within a few minutes by a thread like this.

I guess it would be fair to say that this thread was started with the focus of Matte figures in mind . Since I started the thread I did not place gloss figures or pricing of them in the discussion as I don't think it is right to converse about something in which I do not collect or spend money on.So based on all of this you could saythis thread was
focused on companies that produce Matte figures and their price increases of those figures. Collectors on this forum start posts about items or products that they collect or have interest in.You can twist it any which way you like but I never mention any one company by name . For those who complain about this company or that companies Matte figures being mentioned frequently maybe it is because those companies and their products are the most popular being collected by the majority of collectors out there. I think through all of the posts here it is easy to conclude that most people will continue to buy an item so long as they really like the product and are willing to spend and can afford the current selling price to get it.

I would be interested in this part of the hobby as I don't really know much about it.

Panzerace... I think Trooper represents another part of the hobby, just as important, that does not get the attention it should. I think thats all he was saying

Because I don't have the time, or inclination, to assemble every maker's list and calculate the average price across each range. A task which, if we consider the sweeping statements made regarding TS prices, would be necessary to justify those statements. Another thing which seems to be overlooked is that the TS market, both in terms of sales and production, is worldwide so to claim that 3 makers have over 50% of the world's total sales is possibly a little ambitious. I would be interested to see the factual evidence of this. Trooper

Trooper has a good point. There are a lot of sweeping generalizations occuring in this discussion. I have always believed that facts tend to end these sorts of arguements but like Trooper I have no idea where I would be able to gather the required information on total sales by company so if there is someone out there who knows these numbers Please do post them.

Hello Again Dear Friends, With everything having already been said at least twice there is one basic fact that I will take the time to address. Some people just get bent out of shape when the most popular brands or types are discussed.The more collectors collect, purchase, and interact about a particular brand of product should be no reason for others to be peeved! The more popular a companies product is the more it gets talked about,especially when new releases are available each and every month. Just take a look at the home page of this forum listing all of the companies posted and then look at the number of threads posted next to each name.
FACT: One manufactorer outnumbers all others combined !!!! Whether you like it or not it is fact. Again the more popular a companies products are the more that they are talked about to include Good, Bad , and Indifferent. {sm2}

Now i am just waiting for the reply about......Well just because a company has more threads on a forum about their products doesn't mean they are the most popular.
 
Sorry have to disagree and I think a few other will also. You cannot use this forum to determine that. There are 2000 members on this forum and a lot of the do not post so you do not know what they collect so this is all assumption. There are people joining all the time and I am finding out things from members all the time that they collect X or Y and I had no idea. Let's not turn it into a bun fight though collect whatever you are happy with and does it really make a difference who sells how much of whatever? it's kind of like my dad is bigger than your dad.

That is the great thing about forums.Freedom of speech to voice your own take or opinion about a subject.I have voiced my opinion and others have voiced theirs. Out of it all each and everyone of us can come to their own final thoughts of the matter.

I think that if 20-30 members want to talk about a certain aspect of the toy soldier hobby in a thread they should be able to. Why does it seem to bother the others.From time to time I will read threads about glossies,about Trophy,Zulu War.Now I don't collect these but I don't get mad at the guys who do because they might say something I don't agree with.The prices of products in this hobby is very important and if people want to discuss it it's their business.

I heartedly agree and endorse the comments above. I have worked in this trade for fifty years and have made figures for some sixty odd companies and at no time have I been able to judge the total of world wide sales or the individual turnover of any one company, and I doubt that any one else can do so either. This is a very wide hobby and the pricing activity of one company is not indicative of the market as a whole. We need more people to indulge so it is unproductive to suggest that the whole market is being priced out of reach. I was interested when Panzer ace posted this thread and dissassociated himself from comments about any single company, thinking that this could be informative, and was disappointed when it degenerated into a discussion which has been mooted many times before. Maybe it's best if we all agree to differ and carry on regardless. Trooper

TROOPER....MY compliments to you being involved in this hobby for 50 years ! Maybe if I started out specifying Matte produced products it would have saved a lot of time ?

You could be right, good buddy, but never mind. Whatever effect the prices have on your buying capacity I sincerely hope you carry on enjoying the hobby and get all the pieces you really desire whether they are matt, gloss or kit. irrespective of whether you collect plastic, matte, glossy, 1:72nd, 1:18th, etc- trading is still a viable way to "Beat the Heat" of the price increase. I have been approached/ have approached three collectors this year on the forum and we have all worked trades- two of the guys traded generously in my favor. Something to consider- no reason cash always has to trade hands.
