I found the question on the other forum interesting and would like to ask the members here the same question.

Alex, I'd be interested in a static display involving trains, like several boxcars or flatcars on a siding or at a depot loading or unloading troops or vehicles, but a working train layout, probably not. Mostly because my displays are confined to shelves and not table tops.:)

I think it would provide excellent material for dioramas, especially troop carrier, vehicle transport and armored trains.

Unless the train could be a tie-in between a train manufacturer and a toy soldier manufacturer, the answer would be no. As a static display, it might be fine but for a diorama you'd need something more than just a single troop carrier or what have you. One, this could get expensive and two, I'd rather see toy soldier manufacturers devote their energies to troops, tanks, etc.

I'd be interested in a static display involving trains, like Flax Cars, Boxcars or Flatcars types used for hauling tanks, troops or vehicles, but not a working train layout.

I'm with Chuck, a flat car with say a Tiger would be ok, but anything more forget it.

I think a Troop Train would be brilliant:D . Or how about some carriges on fire or blown up:eek: . Some bits:eek: for transporting tanks and supplies. Train station with German soldiers running for their life because the train is about to blow up:D.

I don't think that could be a possibility because as a former train person who had a setup, these would take up a lot of room. The set up I had was O gauge. The trains you need for 54 or 60 mm are G gauge, which are very big so I just don't think it's realistic to have a full line of trains. One or two troop or tank carriers, yes; a whole line, no.

I have had this image in my head for a long time of a train pulling several Tigers on flatbeds with the transportation tracks on them and the full size tracks on the side.
I wish there was a manufacutrer that would build trains in 1/30 scale but I don't see this happening anytime soon.
As for a static display it would be a nice piece but complicated and costly. I would still pay for it though:D

As Brad and others have pointed out, from an overall size standpoint, I can't see it working. Trains in 60mm would be huge, they would dominate a display.

Speaking of trains, what would be awesome is a diorama of the train station at the end of Cross of Iron, with the Germans dug in around it, defending it against the Russian onslaught. Perhaps a track with a train on it, flatbeds with sandbags and AA guns on one, a tank on another.................pretty awesome stuff, but the display would be huge. Fred, we could pull this off in your newly finished basement, on say two 8 by 2 tables..............:D

Sounds like a plan to me, George, with your knowledge and expertise on displays and the knack you have for knowing where to get just the right bits and pieces, it's certainly worth looking in to.:D Now, if we can only find some rolling stock and I can find some folding green, we're good to go.;)

I think it would be neat to have a train, but only for a static display.

You could model an unsed siding with weeds growing through the sleepers a couple of opened damaged boxcars.

Or how about some passenger cars dipicting passengers being loaded on when they were evacuated from London.

There have been excellent armored trains for the Boer War (Trophy crewed) and the Gordon Relief Expedition (Manes Marzano) in 54mm. Anyone coming to the Symposium will see several - one in my son's collection, at least three in Mark Hoffman's collection. I don't see why one or two cars couldn't work in a 1:30 scale diorama, Gordon of K&C has already done two dioramas of train stations, one with one flatcar loaded with a Hetzer, the second with two flatcars and two pieces of German armor.

As I said before, one/two maybe yes, other than that no. If you have the room, that's fine, but I don't think many of us have that much room.

I agree some specific pieces for static display might be great -- but I don't have the room for any rolling stock. And, if I found the room, it would go for soldiers first.

Actually, I have looked over the websites of several model trains companies for some time looking for a wood box car from around 1900 - 1918 in 1/29 scale for my King & Country figures. No such luck. There are box cars of this time period out there, but they are of a different scale. USA Trains makes 1/29th scale cars, but none of them would fit a static display for the WWI Germans. I even emailed a couple of the manufacturers to see if they would consider making a box car from that era in that scale, but never got any response.

I think K&C needs to stick with what they do best, but it would be pretty awesome if one of the train companies could make either a box car, flat bed or passenger car that would go with K&C toy soldiers. I prefer the box car. I haven't had a train set for 20 years, but I am finishing off my garage so I can put up a train set in it.

Have you tried www.walthers.com ?

Exactly! Oh yes, and a couple of those great big rail mounted guns would be .
