Toy Soldiers in The Media (1 Viewer)

You all clearly have to get out more often! Daytime TV is not good for you!

(Note: I must get a bigger TV set!) johnnybach

I don't know if you're including wargames figures but "Callan" a 60's spy drama, the title caracter was a gamer. In the 70's feature film of the same name they used Peter Gilder's figures.(a well known gamer and writer)

Funnily enough, prior to the Callan series being shown on TV most collectors were fairly reticent about the hobby, but once this tough guy was seen indulging in war games and painting 54mm it became a recognised pastime. Part of one episode was filmed in Tradition when the shop was at 188 Piccadilly. I was working there at the time and met Edward Woodward who is a very nice guy. Trooper

I've never understood why, if you draw a uniform illustration, you're an "artist". If you sculpt the same thing it's "oh, you make toy soldiers".^&grin^&grin

Couldn't agree with you more, Martin, AND it's usually accompanied by "Do you play with them? (Smirk, smirk)" Trooper

"...I'm making your silver pants, red." :D

Prost!

I remember groaning in the theater at this point in the movie (and my wife laughing just as loud). Funny enough, none of my friends ever teased me about this.

No one teases me about my soldiers, as they know I would then give them a Napoleon lecture :wink2: I guess the swords and the musket hanging in the same room impress them, so it kind of counters the fealings towards the soldiers.

Custer is gloomily looking over his collection of what appear to be 54mm Napoleonic figures in " Son of the Morning Star"
Throws a fit and sweeps a bunch over with the back of his hand.{sm2}

I can confirm they are K&C figures as I supplied the figures.

Movie is Iron Sky and part of filming was done on the Gold Coast in Australia a few months ago.

Movie web page is www.ironsky.net

Looks like a terrific sci-fi concept and if done right it could be a great film. -- Al

In the 1960 film The Unforgiven (not the later Clint Eastwood movie) Burt Lancaster asks Doug McClure for his toy soldiers to melt down to make pistol balls. Chris

"I'm making your silver pants red." Maybe they were groaning because he didn't use any primer:)

In the Colombo TV series the episode Grand Deceptions has many scenes showing a very large diorama of the Battle fo Getysburg. In fact a union soldier found behind some books is central to Colombo solving the murder.
