Trainspotting (2 Viewers)

Hi Guys,

Just before Andy and the rest of the gang left for LA he asked me to show all the Treefroggers not attending “The WestCoaster” this year the displays that Gordon has been working on for the show. First up is TRAINSPOTTING.

The story so far... A German Transport Train has been derailed by French partisans. Although successful in their mission an enemy convoy has just appeared on the scene. All hell is breaking loose.

Gordon hand built all of the scenery and the train itself. It took him almost a month to complete.

The train is just one of several projects K&C is working on at present… so watch this space!

AND here’s Gordon’s second display… a more modest 4 foot square stretch of roadway SOMEWHERE IN LIBYA. It’s a complete contrast to the first one but also nicely shows how a small display can work with just a few vehicles and figures. All scenery was hand-built and hand-painted.

The derailed train is ace and the gun on the back of the coal car is cool, the flat car is plenty big as well for the K&C tanks, any chance we might see more pics

Yup,
The train diorama is in line with what I had in mind for a Resistance dio. I see the "fantasy" car has been put to good use as well. So that should shut the "we know better than you" crowd up - but probably not.

When I grow up (if ever) I wnt to be like Gordon Nielson.

The word is that the train was intact until Gordon dropped it, so he had to make a "wrecked" train scene

In fact, I like this one so much, I'm going to use it for ideas of my own. Not copy it, you understand, just use it as inspiration.
My dioramas have to be small cos of lack of space, but you're absolutely right Andrew, just a few vehicles and figures can result in a stunning display.

What is the train made of and would we buy a limited edition resin engine and tender with add on cars ,ever so often?...Would this question be worth a poll? I would lay out the cash for the train...Michael

I can only say WOW! He just keeps getting better every year, but believe me, very few collectors can afford a diorama that took Gordon a month to build. My guess is that train dio sells for north of $10,000 . . .
