Travelling to Brazil (2 Viewers)

Moving north we come to Santa Catarina, still in the southern Region. Santa Catarina is a very beautiful state, the population being almost all of German, Italian, Portuguese and Pole descent. The capital of Santa Catarina is Florianopolis:

In Santa Catarina you'll find other nice beaches like Balneario Camboriu, whre you can actually sail a pirate ship replica, among other things!
Hope you liked it. I'll come back with southeastern Brazil (Sao Paulo and Rio) next!

Cheers...

Unbelievable!

Ok, gentlemen. We are moving north through Brazil and next we have the southeastern region. There are 4 states in this region: Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerias and Espirito Santo. Espirito Santo is small, there's only a few beaches beaches and a huge oil reserve there, so we'll only show you the three others.

Sao Paulo is the richest state of Brazil, and Sao Paulo is its capital. The state of Sao Paulo has almost 40 million inhabitants. The city of Sao Paulo is also huge, the second laregest in the western hemisfere, with a population of almost 11 million! Take a look at Sao Paulo:
saopaulo.jpg

It also has some beautiful places like Ibirapuera Park:
saopauloibirapuera.jpg

Unfortunately it is a huge city and has over 6 million cars, their traffic jams cover more than 100 miles every business day!
saopaulotransito.jpg

Sao Paulo has lots of favelas (slums) the poor people from the northeastern region of Brazil move there and bring along all sorts of problems. It's a pity. Sao Paulo is a thriving city that never sleeps, much like New York.

In the state of Sao Paulo tehere are also some beautiful beaches, like Ilha Bela (Beautiful Island):
saopauloilhabela800.jpg

In the state of Sao Paulo people like country music, and the Brazilian version of it: Sertanejo. If rodeos are your cup of tea, the state of Sao Paulo has more than a hundred each year! The one at Barretos, the biggest, offers over 1 million reais in prizes (that's US$500,000!).
saopauloaandre-rodeio-2800.jpg

Next comes the state of Rio de Janeiro, where the capital is also called Rio de Janeiro. Rio is a paradise on earth, so beautiful one can't imagine without being there! But since it's on earth, the city has its problems. The violence of the drug dealers in the favelas, the corruption of the politicians and the police, and of course the poverty in the favelas. Take a look at Rio:
rio.jpg

riosugarloaf.jpg

One must go to Rio at least once. It's an experience you will never forget!

In the state of Rio de Janeiro there are many other gorgeous beaches, like in Buzios and Cabo Frio. This is Buzios:
buzios3yv.jpg

The next state is Minas Gerais. It's a big state, far from the sea, and full of beautiful montains and many different mineral deposits (that's why Minas Gerais translates into General Mines). The capital of Minas Gerais is Belo Horizonte (Beautiful Horizon), and this is what you see at its horizon:
Belo_Horizonte-Sud.jpg

In Minas Gerais you should visit Ouro Preto (Black Gold) a 18th century town mostly preserved in its original condition, with plenty of barroque buildings, houses and churches:
Ouro_Preto_4369.jpg

Now, I did not forget to mention Rio's Carnaval (Mardi Gras), the greatest show on earth, but I'll need another thread to include more pictures. This one is done.

Cheers...

Rio de Janeiro is blessed by the statue of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Reddemer), and this is good, because the Carnaval in Rio lasts a full week of samba, beer, half-naked women, etc.
:D

Here's Christ taking good care of Rio:
cristo20redentor.jpg

The desfiles (parades) in Rio happen on two consecutive nights from 8pm to almost noon the next morning! People really should go to the desfiles. The samba schools are so beautiful, the music so loud, it's a party! Take a look at the parades:
carnaval-_459a31.jpg

Carnival_in_Rio_de_Janeiro.jpg

286487_8.jpg

In the two days you'll watch 16 schools of samba, over 20,000 sambistas (the people who can dance the samba) hundreds of floats, and, believe me, it's an experience you will never forget!

Tomorrow I'll come back with mid-western Brazil, the region where Brazil's capital, Brasilia, is located. This is also the region where Pantanal (Swampland) is located.

Cheers...

Who pays for Rio's Carnaval? It looks like it must cost a fortune to put on.

You country looks terrific, I am amazed by the size of your cities! It is

really quite impressive. I had read that you were producing petro from

sugar cane because you were being squeezed out of the oil market by

China. It certainly looks like your country should be the most powerful one

in South America.

John,

Rio's carnaval is paid by the school of sambas. They are partly sponsored by the Rio Tourism Office (that wants to promote tourism), but most of their money comes from the tickets they charge tourists to watch their rehearsals, the parade itself, and the sales of CDs and DVDs.

Brazil is terrific and our cities are really huge! You are right about that.

In the 1970's, due to oil crisis, Brazil started producing fuel from sugar cane alcohol (ethanol). Now Brazil produces all the oil it needs and has plenty to export as well. We recently found the Pre-Sal oil field, the largest oil find in the 21st century, and Brazil was already invited to join Opec! As of 2006 we are fuel independent, something most countries dream of. When oil prices sky rocketed a couple of years ago, the price of gas remained the same in Brazil. That was the first time this happened.

Brazil is not only the largest country in Latin America, it's also the one with the most population and the biggest economy as well.

Compared to our friends in South America Brasil has 3,287,597 sq mi while the rest of South America (without Brazil) has 3,602,403 sq mi. Brazil is almost half South America! The population of Brazil is 198,739,269, while the rest of South America has a population of 183,260,731! This means the population of Brazil is larger than that of all the other 12 countries of South America combined! A giant if you know what I mean.

Cheers...

John, I've searched the internet to try and find how much costs the carnaval parades. I couldn't find a precise number, it may be a well kept secret, only an estimation: a big school of samba from Rio needs millions of dollars to prepare for the parade...

Again my friend what a wonderful thread! You have done a wonderful job
educating a lot of us here on the Forum about your beautiful country. I was
so impressed I showed your thread to my wife who could not believe it!

She wanted me to ask you how much gas is per gallon/litre however it is sold. Currently we pay $2.29 a gallon for regular and $2.49 for high test.

Before reading your thread I thought Brazil was similar to India, or Pakistan, with very rich people and very poor people. All we ever read or hear about is
Rio during Carnaval and the amazon rain forrest. The impression you get is that most of the country is impenetrable rain forrest that has to be slashed and burned so people can live there!

The pictures you post of beautiful cities is amazing.......and a beer festival?
Who would ever have imagined that?:)

Great thread! Show us more!

Sorry guy's - definitely not me...!!!
I'm biased towards a certain nationality. And if that certain nationality catches me checking out other beautiful ladies on this computer - she's likely to pull the plug - on me...!!!
:eek::eek::eek:

Harry, you had better watch out! The wives always keep one eye on us!

Not that there is any reason to of course!:D

Uthred, I have just read all your posts on this thread and would like to say thank you for taking the time to post these photos of your very colourfull and interesting country, if I ever win the lottery I would like to see it for myself.:)

Thanks again.

Jeff

John,

please tell your wife gas costs about R$2,00/R$2,50 (it really depends on how far you are from the oil fields) That's about a dollar, a dollar and a quarter per litre.

Well, I've never been to India, but I know people who's been there and I heard Brazil is completely different. For instance: 50% of Brazil's populations is white, 42% is pardo (the mix between white and black) and the rest, only 8%, are blacks, indians and asians. I bet you didn't know that!
;)

There's a poor region of Brazil, the northeastern region, and I will eventtually get there. This region is a desert, really. There is also the tropical rain forest in the northern region, I'm leaving that for last. As I told you, we've got 5 different regions, actually 5 different countries with a different people, climate, geography, life style, etc. All we share is our language and the currency!
:D

Cheers...

I hope your note referring to Brazil. It would appear that it is quite a beautiful

place and certainly in the 21 Century with the rest of us.

If they are self-sufficient with oil they may be a few steps ahead of us!

As if I didn't believe for a minute we weren't simply using the worlds supply

while we cap our wells in Pennsylvania, the Gulf, Texas, Alaska.....ect.:D

Hello Nija,

This City calls Recife, and that Urban Beach calls Boa Viagem. I was teasing our friend that referred (in a previous post) to t 19th Century Poor Northeast region, is the reason why Brazil still not 100% developed.

Recife (5th large city in Brazil) is the Capital of one Northeast State that is one of the biggest produce of Ethanol (from sugar cane) in Brazil.

I will stop here to not get political and be deleted again, so to conclude I would like to add that the Northeast is the birthplace of Brazil and its culture and traditions.

I also would like to add that in the 17th Century Recife was invade by the Dutch until the Portuguese kick them out. So the Dutch crew left Recife and went North and founded the city of New Amsterdam, that will became New York City... New York was founded by the Dutch Jews that were forced to live Brazil, it was Inquisition time by the Catholic Portuguese....

ROd.

Okay,

Forgive me for walking on your thread, but,

I'll do the dirty work.

I guess I'm the only perv on here.

I'm sure this post will get no views.

Script from Supermodel database,

"Holy mother of God — it’s three of the world’s hottest supermodels all in the same picture, and they’re all wearing bikinis! Yes, that’s right, kids, there is a God, and he was kind enough to engineer it so that three lovely ladies from Brazil, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Ana Beatriz Barros, would end up in the same photoshoot wearing bikinis. The only thing missing from this picture? Well, for one, there’s only one picture, and secondly, they’re sitting way too far apart, if you know what I mean, and I think you do."

Those pictures are from NORTHEASTERN Brazil. A region where 60% of the population are still living in medieval condiotions. Don't worry, gentlemen. I picked uo small pictures not to shock you.

These pictures are the result of corruption, lack of education, oportunities and bad adminstrations for 450 years in northeastern Brazil. The state of PERNAMBUCO, where the beautiful beaches of Recife are located, can't hide it's sertao (badlands), where millions live in those sub-human conditions.

Goodbye to you all.

I was nice meeting you.

All countries have poor areas that need a lot of help to raise their standard

of living. It just seems to be human nature.

Why are you saying goodbye?

Because debrito called me a racist and compared me to a nazi, my friend.
:(

You followed the threads and certainly know I'm neither one, right?

Marcelo,

I will write you but I don't think he did that. However, I will discuss it with you off line.
