Colour-Sergeant Maybin with his foot on a small keg of Rum is hopefully awaiting the help that the Kilted Vampire has lead astray while water is being fetched to fill canteens and to prepare some tea. This is Trophy's set Not a Drop to Drink......The Lt.

Hi Joe,

I have the figure on the right in my Trophy Isandlwana display. He is from one of the hand-to-hand sets. I have all brown helmet figures with the exception of the officers & NCOs who are wearing white. My Frontline Rorke's Drift figures also have brown helmets while my Imperial Rorke's Drift figures are wearing white helmets.

Historically speaking, I believe the brown helmets are correct. They were issued white but the troops in the field used tea, among other things, to make them brown so that they would be less conspicuous. The 1964 movie Zulu had the 24th Foot wearing white helmets and toy soldier producers went along. However, Trophy made identical sets with one or the other and asked the buyer to specify which they wanted. Imperial offered only white helmets while Frontline offered only brown even on their original glossy Zulu War line.

Great pictures! I think that the Trophy figures are among the best toy soldiers on the market today. Very detailed and their poses are always correct but I heard that the company went out of business. It would be sad.

The few who managed to escape faced a harrowing experience along teh Fugitive's trail.

Thanks to Damian Clarke who provided me with the source I was able to acquire a 1996 Limited Edition of Trophy's "Abandon Hospital" in it's original packaging and unopen signed by Len Taylor and like a little kid couldn't wait to show it off.....The Lt.

Len Taylor sold Trophy of Wales Ltd. a couple of years ago. The new company is called Heritage Trophy. These things usually don't turn out well. The new company can continue using the molds they aquired until they wear out, but after that, the sculpting and animation will reflect the new owner's style and will not be the same.

Mike where is Heritage Trophy located and do you know who the owner is. To the best of my knowledge it was last year that Len retired selling it to Ken Jackson of Maison Militaire.......The Lt.

You are correct, it was last year. Ken Jackson of Maison Militaire bought Trophy and renamed it Trophy Heritage (I transposed the name). They are located, as you probably know, in Scarborough in North Yorkshire.

Brad,

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that question, but I have not seen any of their product yet. Maybe it is available in the U.K. and hasn't arrived here yet.

I spoke to Ken about 3 weeks ago. They are still trying to sort out and catalogue all the ld molds. I think the answer at present is no. YOur best bet if you like glossy style Zulu War is Mike Norris at Littel Legion. His figures are alittle less full bodied but he does poses that Len never dreamed of. I really like his stuff. It does take a while to get hold of it though.
Regards
Damian Clarke

Damian,

Thanks. I do like the Little Legion stuff, having picked up a set from his dealer in the US. Assuming he's at the Chicago show, I will pick up another set.
