That's a great set. I always loved Trophy sets with wagons, tractors, trucks or other wheeled conveyances.

Here's another vintage set by Trophy also sold as single figures.....The Lt.

Hi Joe-

Great figures.

I am very impressed.

Thanks for sharing.

Pierre.

The figures appearing in the photo are from Trophy's Dragon Series of the Zulu War and feature figures of the Natal Native Contingent from Set D.C. 20A. Seems I ended up with an extra figure of an Officer. Maybe Louis or Damian can share some light on this. I found them on Ebay and couldn't pass on them and have blown my budjet for the next several years and no I'm not even thinking of bidding on the Rorke's Drift Diorama of Ebay it's way to rich for my blood and would keep me in hock until the year 2099 and then some....The Lt.

I saw a whole bunch of cool stuff but I too am trying to recoup my credit card balances:(

I don't recognize that set Lt. They are obvioulsy Trophy and I owuld presume quite early sets. The British decided to launch the Zulu War in the cheap. They sent messages round to all the Natal chiefs demanding a quota of troops. Obvioulsy no sefl respecting chief was going to send his best men. These tribes were Zulu in everything but name. They spoke Zulu and practiuced the same reliogion and way of life as their cousins across the Buffalo. The Brits were too skint to give thema unifomr so they tore up red cloth and told them to wrap that round their head so that the British troops could tell who was loyal and who wasn't. They were not given rifles. In SA firearms were reserved for whitemen and not given to blackmen. These auxillaries carried spears. When they were overwhelmed at Islandwana they simply took off their red headbands and became indistinguishable from Zulus.

Damian I know they're from Trophys Dragon Crest Series of the Zulu War which was seperate from his Zulu War Series. Thanks for providing the above on the NNC for the viewers but one minor correction one in ten of the NNC were issued rifles. Got to keep you on your toes your keeping me on mine....The Lt.

I think the British attitude is summed up by the movie Zulu Dawn when one of the NNC drowns with his bandolier of ammunition much to the disgust of teh quartermaster. The quartermaster says. " Natives aren't on my inventory ammunition is "

Damian

I must thank Damian for allowing me to have this set, he had placed a order on it but was good enough to pass on it so I could acquire it. I really like the Officers pose to be featured in my Zulu War Series. The Dervish figure is an added bonus for it very well done by Trophy. Thanks Damian....The Lt.

The officer is one of the best action poses I've ever seen from Trophy. Really nicely done. Great acquisition!

Wow that is a great set! I have four different sets of Sudan hand-to-hand, but with Cameron Highlanders in red.

Nice set. A big thanks to Damian. Great action pose is right.

Hi Lt,

Very cool set!!

I guess it would be a difficult one to find. I like the Sudan sets I will be displaying my Front Line Sets when I return from my cross country trek.

All the best

Dave

I'm enclosing a photo which is showing two poses of the same figure. The Officer with the spear is from Trophy's Zulu War Hand to Hand Set HZ6 Lt. Coghill. What a difference the figure makes with a sword in his hand and you'll see the difference in the helments, face painting and jacket trimmings....The Lt.

I agree that it does look so much better with the sword. However, I also think the face of the figure on the left is much superior to that on the right. For years Trophy's faces were as on the left; later figures, including the Dragon Crest re-makes, were more like the right figure.

I just took a look at my Trophy Isandlwana display. I have the figure on the right with the better sculpted face from a hand-to hand set. I stopped buying the later Trophy sets when they changed to the cruder looking faces and to the terrain bases from the square bases.
