Trophy steam boat (1 Viewer)

There are two K & C Seaforths in there: the flag bearer and the officer marching (in photo 11, the two from the rear).

Hi Guys,

Not totally sure of this one either, it says it was specially made by Trophy but if so it certainly seems like a rush job. The figures are definately a mix of companies as Brad has already pointed out and some are off scale enough to make me wonder who really put this grouping together. Not an expert but my gut says its not correct.

All the best

Dave

I agree with Brad about the K and C Seaforth's. The gatling gun is vintage Trophy and the other set looks lioke a dimestore type figure. I have seen pictures of the Trophy Dhow and Gunboat but this one does not look familiar. Perhaps it was a special commission from Tim Hilstead.

The boat appears to be a decent homebuilt job, but not up to the standard of the trophy boats I have seen in the past. Did Trophy mark their boats ?

Did anyone notice the other ship on the lower shelf in the last few pictures...

I'm pretty sure I bought this same boat from Jim Hillestead many years ago.
He should know who made it.
I gave it as a gift to a friend's son as the quality was mediocre at best.

The boat down below lloks like same construction - you can see by the rail posts and how the thread is spun around each post.

Not sure this looks like Trophy to me. It's nice but there are some real rough spots throughout.

I see this one closed at 1 825 USD.
I wonder if the bidders know something that we did not.

Damian

Damian,

To be honest Mike, I am not sure. I think one of them may be the Trophy gunboat. The one with out an upper deck. I know that Trophy did the Victoria steamboat which this seller acutioned. he did an Arab Dhow and Gunboat which Jim Hillstead apparently sold. He did the CSA Leopard, USS Eagle and the HMS Lion. I have pictures of all of the latter three. I have seen pictures of the Arab Dhow and Gunboat in a recent edition of TS. I know Jim Hillstead had a special relationship with Trophy back in the early days and so he may have done a few commissions for Jim. So in short I am not certain. I have tried to email Juim in teh past but he did not respond. Lyn Kenwood of MKL says he has never seen the Dhow or gunboat.
They are nice looking boats.

Damian,
Many thanks as usual for the info. They are good and I've always wanted some type of craft for supply deployment into Durban, Ft. Durnford, Tugela etc.. for the build-up to the AZW. I would really like a landing barge with Bluejackets (or Whiteys) rowing for dear life to get over the surf line! Guess I'll keep looking. Mike

I am going to take a shot at the undecorated one. I need a new gunboat since my father has the other one I made.:D

Good luck.
The last two wnet for hefty sums so all the best

Damian

At at 367USD and 73USD at approx. 1700hrs ET. Watch those number go way up. What do you think, Damian? Double at 700$ an 400$? Some people need a steam-driven boat, what with the price of petrol/gas! Mike

The last two went to almots 2000 USD. The first one was definitely Trophy. These two I am not sure about.

I am not sure if either of the gunboats are Trophy but they do seem to be professionally made. the seller, Material girl , does have some nice items for sale
