Trophy - zulu war sets (2 Viewers)

A Royal Engineer Company sets it's pontoon into the Tugela River to make a more permanent crossing for the troops of the Coastal Column..
A Big TY to my friend Martyn for making this crossing a reality!;)
And it is labeled Zulu War Eq33!!!
Mike

That is one awesome scene! You are the master of working with subjects involving water.

Brian, Scott, Martyn, Joe and Randy,
Thanks for commenting on my leisure time activities. I'll have you know that American Idol was on TV in the background, providing ample stimulus for me to do (anything beside watching & becoming violently ill!) my Trophy presentations. Now , where to display these beauties?
Mike

Here are some re-inforcements

I would not go around calling him Trooper. AT leats not to his face. He might give you some serious PT.
His chevrons are clearly visible.
Do you think Lyn Kenwood has another pontoon at the shop?

Hi Damian

I'm not sure what Lyn has at the shop as I've never been there, but the Pontoon was unearthed at the wharehouse along with some Trophy Napoleonic sets. Looks like Lyn has started to post some Trophy on Ebay.

Cheers

Damian,
By all means, give him a ring! He informed me that he had thrown out:( most of the literature that was compiled over the years... He might have some goodies. Just have to ask, and I would recommend a call over e-mail, since it takes a while to connect. Good luck and be sure to keep us in the loop;)

Martyn,
Thank you for posting these pictures. I can see Crealock in RMLI uniform. I can also see how these were special jobs for you by Ken Taylor!
In the Buffs picture, where's the "buff"? And Iv'e said it before, and I'll say it again (for hopes and dreams)- Still need 13th, 21st, 58th, 80th 88th!

Someday we (I) would love to see a large scale mounted get-together!

Hi Mike

Check out the Colour Sgt’s ammo pouches in the picture of the 3rd. The Buffs Officer is behind the Colour Sgt, the Officer to the right in the picture is temporarily attached to the Buffs;)

I have found my original order for the GINGINDLOVU sets and for the 3rd "Buffs" it includes the following painting instructions:

OFFICERS --------WHITE HELMETS + BADGE
ORS--------------TAN HELMETS, BUFF COLLAR TAB, PLAIN CUFFS WITH WHITE BRAID AND TREFOIL, LIGHT BUFF EQUIPMENT and LIGHT BUFF POUCHES

Cheers

Martyn,
Coat facings are buff all around. I'll get a plate later. Have to help my Dad pull a dead deer out of his yard....

Mike

We had 13 in our front yard yesterday, waiting to cross the road. Many of them were fawns. They live in the woods behind our house and cross the road to get to another wooded area where they feed during the day.

Alrighty then, dirty work has been accomplished, after scaring the buzzards away... The plate shows the buff facings on the cuff and collar... Now the
90th Perthsire and 99th Lanarkshire Regiments did have yellow buff collar facings with no cuff color. Maybe he is supposed to be one of those regiments?
Sorry I can not post the plate at this time- Icant figure out how to convert a pdf to a wdoc to a jpg to a pdf to a jpeg:confused: Soon
Mike

Hi Mike

Here is some info I found.

According to my copy of Osprey “BRITISH FORCES IN ZULULAND 1879” by Ian Knight, page 16, quote “ The 3rd, 21st and 90th had plain red cuffs (but retained the white tape trefoil)”. The book was published in 1991, two years before I had the sets painted.

Here are a couple of pictures from the sets

Martyn,
Magnifique!! I noticed that you placed scrub at the base of each figure to hide the base. I comes out great. Just like routing through the bush!

Thanks Mike, I thought you would like a scene with the 17th.

The scrub acts as a quick form of camouflage

Made my afternoon Martyn featuring my favorite mounted warrriors who performed bravely at the battle of Ulundi and thanks for the info on the Rankers tunic and the figures wearing them. 1879 it was a sad end for the mounted infantry man who appear in the photo you posted nice set another of which I don't have........The Lt.

Great cinematic action shots from wide angle to close-up. Thank you Mr. DeMille of Zululand.:)
