Tropical 88 (1 Viewer)

It is a very fine piece. That is why I am trying to getas many pieces into the diorama as possible:D. I hope Rick is reading this thread. The Firefly, had 3 other sets that accompanies it. The priest, has one. So PLEASE RICK!! The 88 needs recruits!!

For those that have picked this piece up, are you able to raise and lower the gun into other positions and have it stay in place? I'm pretty much left with either having the gun all the way down, or all the way up. Won't stay in place with it slightly or moderately elevated, but am not sure if it is supposed to have full range or not. Had a couple small broken pieces (things that came unglued it looks like), but luckily nothing major broken. The gun does seem off center also, but I'm not sure why. Any further feedback/pictures would be great for comparison!

I like it more than the winter version including the camo and it being a later version with the better rangefinder. It arrived in perfect shape so the Packaging worked for me.

The gun only seems to stay in the vertical or down position. Looks like they ran out of hydraulic fluid for the pistons. :)

I don't know what you mean by off centre? Can you post a photo?

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the feedback. Here are some pictures of the 88 to see what I mean by off centre:

Photo 1 is a front view, shows the gun is tilted to the left.

Photo 2 is a top view, shows the shield is off alignment with the gun, but this I figured could be explained away (don't know how straight those would be, plus wear-n-tear, etc.).

Photo 3 is a rear view, shows the gun tilting to the right.

The shield being off a bit doesn't bother me, but the gun being off gives it an odd look from a few of the viewing angles. Viewed from the sides it isn't a problem, but from front/back/top it looks like the gun took a hit from the side and rotated a bit (if that makes any sense!).

Mine has the same mis-alignments but only a little bit so I didn't even notice them until I saw your photos and looked specifically for them. On mine, they really aren't too noticeable.

My winter 88 has only the gun tilted to the right but so much that the barrel touches the shield and when elevated past the shield actually jumps a bit more to the right when not stopped by the shield. To lower the gun I have to push it slightly to the left to get it past the shield.

The pistons on the winter 88 are tighter so it holds in several different raised positions.

From our very limited sample of 3 guns, it seems like it is an assembly/quality control issue, the consistent problem to varying degrees is the gun leaning (rotating) to the right - an assembly difficulty?

I can't fix it because it is too risky to unassemble the gun and reglue it and I am not shipping it back. Maybe I'll get Figarti to fix it at Chicago next year? But I am not even certain they can take it apart and reseat it flat.

I know Figarti will stand behind their models, but these 88s are totally sold out so it probably can't be replaced.

I suppose Figarti could do another run of winter and summer 88s with new and slightly different molds and would probably sell out 100 of each of the two new ones.

My 88 has exactly the same problem - and I thought I was the only collector having quality control issues with Figarti lately.

In addition my Winter Halftrack arrived with a broken track as pictured below.

I had the same answer from Figarti, sorry but only 100 were made, so we can't replace them. I actually spat the dummy about my growing list of Figarti damages last night and canceled several pre-orders pending some actual ACTION on this issue - I'm FAR from a happy collector atm :(

hearing the unfortunate stories here, im going to sweat on my soon to arrive 88, and have a reassessment of my orders.

Nasir, I can well understand your reluctance but no doubt Figarti will address the fragility issues.

I can't see how they can fix the barrel so to reduce the crooked look I decided to pose my Tropical 88 with the barrel elevated around 45 degrees. I think it looks much better displayed like that and gives my AK display another dimension.

My winter 88 is the same, and like others i to am sweating on 5 pre-orders........

how does it compare with the Collectors' showcase 88mm gun (AK version)?

I have the CS one but it doesn't have the rotation problem.

The CS version is heavy being all metal and much bigger at around 1/25 scale. The Figarti 88 is lighter as it has some resin (I guess) parts and more finely made than the CS 88 and of course the CS 88 doesn't have wheels. The Figarti 88 is more like the FOV version than anything else, just a bit bigger.

I got my frst up close look at the tropical version last weekend, its very nice but I don't think it quite matches the winter version. That winter release is just superb in my view.
