Yes, love this show (as with most HBO Shows). Dexter is great too and Entourage is probably my favorite show of all time along with Lost. Loved The Wire and Rome as well. HBO is the best.

Is the new show Hung any good?

Hung is funny.......it's not too late to catch up on it.......maybe 4 episodes only.

Rome was great........but DEADWOOD was the best western I have ever seen.

Me and my Dad were floored when they cancelled Deadwood.

Anybody know why?

The final episode was worse the the Sopranos final episode.

They really left me hanging bad!:mad::mad:

DEADWOOD was canceled because of hundreds of complaints from American Lesbians. Apparently they were upset that the Calamity Jane character wasn't made to look tough enough and not swear as much as the real Calamity.

HBO are now filming a more realistic version of DEADWOOD where Calamity is more butch and uses at least Four swear words in every sentence rather than just Two per sentence as in the earlier release.

I'll wait for Hung to make it's DVD appearance here in China about a week after the season finishes so I can marathon watch it (it's really the best way to watch doing an entire season in a single session).

Deadwood was great as well and I was also pretty surprised that they cancelled it. I need to watch it again I think.

My better half just made me sit through the entire first season of Tell Me You Love Me. Sigh. It's not that it was a bad show, it was actually ok, it's just one of those shows that you watch with your significant other that just leads to her asking questions, making comments, etc... ("I would kill you if you did that", "We're not like that are we", "Oh, he's such a jerk", etc. etc. etc...). Apparently, the writer wrote herself into a corner and had no material for the second season so they cancelled it because she couldn't come up with anything. Thank God for small favors..... Being forced to watch countless playings of Six Feet Under is one thing, but Tell Me You Love Me was just a bit too much.

You know what show I liked that got cancelled as well was Dirty, Sexy, Money. I thought it was pretty funny, but apparently no one else did....

The other show that I've REALLY grown to love is Curb Your Enthusiasm. Sooooo funny.....

My God...she was a "foul mouthed" character..........but so was everybody else in the show.:D

LOL Michael, I liked Deadwood and have been known to use a few four letter words myself, but I was actually a bit shocked when Calamity first dropped a few of her more choice swear words on one of our free to air channels  I guess most swear words seem worse when a woman uses them.

Well........Jane might have been shocking, but probably because the lines written were delivered by a female actress........but Al took the cake, hands down.

He couldn't make a complete sentence without the word "c--------r", lol.

I don't think people relaize how real a lot of the characters were in this series.

In early 1876, frontiersman Charlie Utter and his brother Steve led a wagon train to Deadwood containing what were deemed to be needed commodities to bolster business, including gamblers and prostitutes, which proved to be a profitable venture. Demand for women was high, and the business of prostitution proved to be a good market. Madam Dora DuFran would eventually become the most profitable brothel owner in Deadwood, closely followed by Madam Mollie Johnson. Businessman Tom Miller opened the Bella Union Saloon in September of that year.

Another saloon was the Gem Variety Theater opened April 7, 1877 by Al Swearengen who also controlled the opium trade in the town. After the saloon was destroyed by a fire and rebuilt in 1879, it burned down again in 1899, causing Swearengen to leave the town.

The town attained notoriety for the murder of Wild Bill Hickok, and remains the final resting place of Hickok and Calamity Jane, as well as slightly less famous figures such as Seth Bullock. It became known for its wild and almost lawless reputation, during which time murder was common, and punishment for murders not always fair and impartial. The prosecution of the murderer of Hickok, Jack McCall, had to be sent to retrial because of a ruling that his first trial, which resulted in an acquittal, was invalid because Deadwood was an illegal town. This moved the trial to a Lakota court, where he was found guilty and then hanged.

As the economy changed from gold rush to steady mining, Deadwood lost its rough and rowdy character and settled down into a prosperous town. In 1876 a smallpox epidemic swept through the camp, with so many falling sick that tents had to be set up to quarantine them. Also in that year, General George Crook pursued the Sioux Indians from the Battle of Little Big Horn on an expedition that ended in Deadwood, and that came to be known as the Horsemeat March. The Homestake Mine in nearby Lead was established in 1877.

A fire on September 26, 1879, devastated the town, destroying over 300 buildings and consuming everything belonging to many inhabitants. Without the opportunities of rich untapped veins of ore that characterized the town's early days, many of the newly impoverished left town to try their luck elsewhere.

A narrow gauge railroad, the Deadwood Central Railroad, was founded by Deadwood resident J.K.P. Miller and his associates in 1888, in order to serve their mining interests in the Black Hills. The railroad was purchased by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad in 1893. A portion of the road between Deadwood and Lead was electrified in 1902 for operation as an interurban passenger system, which operated until 1924. Apart from a portion from Kirk to Fantail Junction, which was converted to standard gauge, the railroad was abandoned in 1930. The remaining section was abandoned by the successor Burlington Northern Railroad in 1984.[4]

.....

Awesome show but too many stars, the cost was too high for the return. That happened to Cain also. BS if you ask me, it was a very good show.

I loved Deadwood the first season but quit watching in the second season (as a lot of my friends did ) as they tried talking Shakspearean or some kind of bullcrap.IMO it just ruined the show.

Michael, you sure know your Deadwood history. I've always been interested in US Western history, it's similar to Australian history with ranchers, outlaws, and miners etc.

There are a few great movies on the subject, like The Man from Snowy River, Return to Snowy River and Quigley Down Under.

These newer "vampire" shows seem to have a tremendous following particularly among women for some reason - like the "Twilight" series. I prefer the old fashioned Hammer films of the 60's and 70's. Bela Lugosi is probably turning in his grave - maybe literally. ;)

There have been a number of Vampire interest resurgences of this type with Twilight and True Blood as the latest iteration. They are essentially of the romance novel / nighttime soap opera genre so the appeal and the audience is rather understandable.;)

Here's one you may not have seen: The Proposition:http://au.rottentomatoes.com/m/proposition/# I don't think it had much success at the box office but it's worth tracking down the dvd if you are into full on brutal action Westerns.
This is a great film. Pierce and Winstone are great, as usual. Very atmospheric and contains brutal action. Came across it on cable by accident and never having heard of it, I watched and was very impressed. Well worth the time, IMO. -- lancer
