The Polish Winged Hussars were a prominent cavalry force in the Polish-Lithuanian Army from the 16th to 18th Centuries. At the very earliest stages, they served as light cavalry but by the middle of the 1500's they were transformed into heavy shock cavalry as we have presented them here. As the primary tactic of the Polish Army of the period was the heavy cavalry charge, the Winged Hussars played an extremely important role on the battlefield. Made famous the by the "wings" made from wood with feathers from various large birds, they appeared to be much larger and more imposing when issuing their charge. One thing is certain, they were certainly among the beautiful of the horsemen of the period with ornate and colorful uniforms and large battle standards. We have presented them here as they would have appeared from about 1587-1632 under the banners of Sigismund III, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania and they bear his standards of that period. We hope you will agree that these are amongst the finest figures we've ever created and represent something a bit more special than the standard "toy soldier" currently available and a real value in terms of their price point relative to the superb quality of the figures.

Please note that while we have coded these figures as TYW simply because they required a code, they are appropriate for not only the Thirty Years War, but also the Renaissance as well, and as such we have placed them in both product categories as many of their enemies are figures that will eventually be placed in the Renaissance figure range.

TYW004 Polish Grand Hetman $189.95
TYW005a Polish Winged Hussar with Grand Standard of Sigismund III $209.95

As we previewed the first of these figures at Chicago in 2015, we do hope you find them worth the wait!

Best,

Matt

Fabulous! And well worth the wait.

Also time to apologize for all my whining about these in the past :redface2:

Simply stunning! These will be in my collection. I wonder if there will be anymore Hussars released. I don't want to sound greedy, but I certainly would like to see a couple more given the quality of these figures.

My order is in, too, for the one with the Grand Standard ^&cool

Amazing figures indeed!
I'm sure there will be a charge of 6 to 8 Hussars at some point.
Great work by First Legion.

Wonderful figures from FL. I know a lot of folks were waiting on these, and would think they will be very popular. I'm sure there are companion pieces planned to round out a nice charge.

I was looking back at some posts from the 2015 Chicago show tonight. The photo is not mine. It looks like this figure wasn't in the batch announced this week. Hopefully we will see it soon along with some others.

I just got the Great Standard bearer, the one most likely will sell out first. Can hardly wait for the "regular winged hussar's to show for battle...."

Courtesy of Andreas (Andanna), here are photos of the Ottoman Turks shown in Chicago in 2015. I expect we will see them in the near future. The figure on the left looks like it could be Mehmed IV, who ruled the Ottoman Empire until 1687.

Although I don't collect this period. These are such amazing figures it is tempting to pick one up.

With First Legion, there will be other pieces, that will be made.
There is just no guarantee that if you wait to get it, that it will be there, when you want to get it... So don't wait to long....

Matt,
Any chance for a sneak peek on some of the other winged pieces that are going to go with these? So we can plan accordingly....

Looks like I am going to get the piece by Tuesday. Real excited about it{sm4}{sm4}

The first two arrived friday, and I really can't say enough about the quality of these figures. It's been a long journey from box art to production but well worth the wait. Looking forward to the next batch. Just beautful figures, hats off to First Legion. regards Gebhard

Congrats Gebs and thanks for the pics! I really enjoy the majority of FL's offerings and find myself admiring how, after many years of collecting Russian figures, FL can produce something that really makes me sit back and appreciate it. I enjoy studying their work. FL doesn't seem content to rest on their laurels either, as your new acquisitions attest.

WOW!!!!......... Thanks for sharing Gebs!!!!.... I have not gotten anything but the Shannon Tribute, for over 7 months...Now this will be the spark to collect again, and what a great spark it is... Can hardly wait to get mine.

Very Nice......Superb paint and detail.....Gebs Question: are the wings removable or fixed in position ....Looks like FL has decided to go with rounded bases instead of the usual rectangular bases....Does anyone know why?........Thank You Frank
