The Polish Winged Hussars were a prominent cavalry force in the Polish-Lithuanian Army from the 16th to 18th Centuries. At the very earliest stages, they served as light cavalry but by the middle of the 1500's they were transformed into heavy shock cavalry as we have presented them here. As the primary tactic of the Polish Army of the period was the heavy cavalry charge, the Winged Hussars played an extremely important role on the battlefield. Made famous the by the "wings" made from wood with feathers from various large birds, they appeared to be much larger and more imposing when issuing their charge. One thing is certain, they were certainly among the beautiful of the horsemen of the period with ornate and colorful uniforms and large battle standards. We are pleased to continue our coverage of these iconic horsemen with the next two figures in the series, TYW006 which is a striking Kettle Drummer and TYW008 which depicts a winged Hussar attacking with his sword.

I will be getting the one attacking with the sword, as soon as it comes out, if next month there are no Winged Hussars releases. I will get the kettle drummer, I really like the design with the saddle.

These are really nice. I particularly like the figure with sword drawn.
The painting on the kettle drummer's horse blanket is stylistic advancement for FL.
It's nice to see a manufacturer who looks to improve.

It is real hard to resist either one of them. First time I am hoping that there won't be anything I will be interested when April's releases come. More than likely after the Standards, the Kettle drummer is the next one that will sell out next.

That's a bummer. I assumed the wings would be detachable to protect them in transport. Hopefully this is just an isolated case.

My wing of my drummer arrived broken, too. I agree that the wings should have been removable. I feel like I am performing delicate neurosurgery just to take them out of the box without breaking off the wings.

Why do not you send it back for a replacement? I think a us$200 toy soldier should have a safer packagin, just my opinion.

I contacted my dealer yesterday and it will be replaced. Let's hope the new one will arrive in one piece...

I was going to order from Treefrog as I have my recent Hussars and Samurai, but sending Broken pieces back to the USA would be a huge faff on and the costs prohibitive too

Think I might give it a miss until I'm in a place I can pick up in person.

Opening my fist set of Hussars was a fearful experience

The FL foam is very snug and I have not had any breakage since 2009. Discussing the foam at the MFCA, you are well advised to take the foam block out of the box first and then slowly remove the figure from the foam. This way, the foam can expand. The last figures, i extricated by pushing them through the foam through the bottom rather than pulling them up.

To make it clear: wing was broken before I even started to remove figure from the box. Actually it is not first broken figure I got. But big advantage of FL is possibility to replace it.

I ordered TYW006 & 008 from Sierra Toy Soldiers. Order is delayed due to quality control issue with the drummer. Clearly a problem with this figure. I remember the K&C Egyptian chariot and Black Hawk Cathaginian elephant have QC issues in the past.
