I think the strategy is complicated. Militarily, they are hurt, so that is a gain. The Regime is the issue and it is deep. I think that takes a war we are not prepared to embark upon IMO. I do know that for nearly 50 years, this is a bad group of people. I don't know how you rid of that entrenched issue without bombing them to the stone ages and in the process hurting innocents. It is a steep price to weigh.I would use the word “understanding” cautiously. The Strait may open and nuclear negotiations pushed down the road and for Trump, the price of gas falls to acceptable levels such that the GOP has a fighting chance in the midterms. However, where we may be is status quo ante. Nothing gained, nothing accomplished. That’s what happens when you lack a strategy.
