USAAF Major Bong's P-38 diorama (1 Viewer)

Hello:
I decided to post two more photos of Figarti's P-38J model airplane that USAF Major Richard Ira Bong flew back in April 1944 when he was protographed with his P-38J named "Marge" with #25 confirmed "kills" indicated on the plane. Overview photo shows the extra palm trees I added to the background & the close up photo now has the Major Bong figure having his left arm resting on the left propeller as is was on the WW2 photograph that this new set was based on. See photo attachment by "glossman" in his prior posting to this thread.

What a great set-up you have created, a perfect display for "Marge". This is easily the best looking aircraft on the market. That highly polished finish is blinding. Just wish it was within my price range. You are a fortunate man, Gary.^&grin -- Al

Hello again to "Mitch" & "Lancer":

Thank you very much for your additional comments!! Yes indeed, I am a "fortunate man" to be able to buy this splendid looking set. Hope you guys will be able to get your Figarti sets of this P-38J of Major "Dick" Bong in the future. I can recommend it highly. By the way, I made an E-mail inquiry to Figarti in China and a "Peter" replied back most timely with my requested information, namely that there were #12 Figarti P-38J models at the OTS Show last week and most of them were sold & that this limited edition is to have a maximum production run of #100 sets.

Thanks again, "Iron Brigade" / Gary

Gary,

Peter is Rick's right hand man and going forward will be running Figarti as Rick is too busy with his other businesses. This was announced by Rick on Friday.

Gary..

Superb aircraft. Can you tell me if the gloves for handling are obligatory someone mentioned fingerprints on the frame if not. I was wondering what it was painted designed with as I had not come across this before

Thanks also for the dimensions of this I prefer this version to the ETO variant. Thanks in advance
Mitch

Cheers Mitch,

Keep in ind that the ETO variant was simply a prototype void of insignia and supposedly rockets so you might like it as well. The "MARGE" version was/is spectacular and quite life-like when comparing it to actual wartime photos. Sad that he (Bong) was only married a year before his tragic crash on T/O.

Back To Base,
Marc

I am in love with Marge, who just arrived this evening! I was wondering if any plane could thrill me enough to have paid $379 for it. Unfortunately I have been bitten by the aircraft bug, so I ordered this model and the ME-110 announced by Figarti in Chicago. I have built up a pretty sizable collection from lots of ranges over the years, but no piece has wowed me like Marge. I have always wanted a silver plane (still hoping for a silver P-51 one of these days), and this one doesn't disappoint. I have no idea where to display these larger planes yet, but I will find a way. No one does special pieces quite like Figarti, and this one has shock and awe written all over it. You have to attach both wings and both propellers. The props are easy of course. You have to be careful with the wings because of little detail pieces, but it wasn't that hard, and they fit very well. I was defnitely wearing the white gloves. For anyone who loves planes, this is one of those that has the look of a centerpiece. I have to also compliment Figarti on the nice figure that accompanies the plane! Awesome job Figarti!!!

Rec'd my P38 this week and it is easily the most impressive piece in my collection. Don't have the great dio setting that Iron Bgde Gary shared with us but simply placed on a bookcase collection with other 1/30 aircraft. Detailing is outstanding. Had a little trouble inserting one wing, a little tight. Now want to see a P40, 47 and 51. Those would be must have additions. Chris
