Vectis Auction for the Lt. (2 Viewers)

Boy I would take the Lt's Rorke's Drift display over Vectis' any day. What a great diorama! If you are interested, I found Trophy's first Rorke's Drift listing in a "catalog" from 1 August 1992:

"This is a Limited Edition of 200 sets:

Included is the facade of the Storehouse and veranda; this is hand cast using a number of materials.

Also included are a two piece mealy bag redoubt with firing steps on the inside. Three sections of stone walling, plus a generous assortment of battle debris.

DEFENDING we have twenty four figures, each specially sculpted for this edition - this includes the eleven Victoria Cross winners plus four Distinguished Conduct Medal winners. They can be identified by their Regimental number and name on each base. The remaining nine figures represent other soldiers in volved in the defence.

Boxed Set. Price //pound sign// 261.54"

Mike I'm interested......The Lt.

Lt.

I wanted to buy YOUR Trophy Rorke's Drift set for the approximately 400 USD that 261 GBP represented in 1992. I didn't realize that it was limited to 200 sets.

Lt,

I would love to have all the figures and yours too. But then I want them all anyway

,,Bite of approval

MUAHAHAHAHAHHAhhahaaaaaaaaaaaa

Not for sale at any price I thought you had the Storehouse you wanted to sell.......The Lt.

No such luck. I just wanted to share with you the description that Trophy used for the set, the number made, and the price.

Is anyone actually serious to bid on the vectis auction? I see a opening bid has been placed. That's a lot of money.

There was a very nicely build 1/72 diorama on ebay a while back for which the seller asked $15.000. Later the auction started a $12.000. I don't believe he sold it. I have pics of it saved for inspiration and here is the first; I have to reduce the others in size and will do that later.

That is an incredible 1/72 scale Rorke's Drift diorama, but it is hard to believe anyone would pay $12,000 USD for it. I was thinking more like $1,500 USD.

I am with Brad on this. The buyer is not registered and he has zero feedbacks! The shipping, $1,200, is what I would have paid for this diorama. So the total with shipping is $13,200. I hope the seller got his money.

Here's a few photos of a 1996 Limited Edition of Trophy's Abandon Hospital which arrived in it's original packaging which was unopened and signed by Len Taylor. I must once again thank Damian Clarke who I owe big time for providing me with the source and thought it would be appropriate to also post a group of photos here for comments. Thanks Joachim for providing the photos of the 1/72 Diorama it was quite a work of art and far superior than the one now being offered....The Lt.

This is a great example of what this Forum can do and was intended to do.

I think Trophy re-did the 1992 Storehouse at the Drift set in the late 1990's. Thye did in fairness change the figures slightly so the two sets are different. The abandon teh hospital came out in 1996. I am gald Joe got hold of it and I would have hated to think of it sitting in some-ones inventory with out being displayed and loves as the great set it is.

All kind of new things (at least to me) pop up in the Lt.'s pics. A collection to be proud of. The pics of your own RD diorama are very impressive. Previous pics never showed the massive scale.

What do you use as photo background? Custom made??

Do you know if this one is the first or second version? What were the differences between the two versions?

Mike Damian has the later edition of the Storehouse which shows that a group of figures were replaced along with their bases which no longer featured the name, rank, service number and award received by the representative figure. Example of three of the older figures included along with a photo of the set of Hookie leads them out of which three of the figures appearing also appear in the new Storehouse Diorama.

Joachim the backround photos are from The Toy Soldier and Model Figure Magazine and they offer a selection of background photos.......The Lt.

Mike I'm sure you'll note the difference in the Figures

. And that sums it up.

Lt.; I can't find them on their site, so i guess one has to order them the old fashioned way right?

I did a google on african landscapen and found some useful pics, maybe paint something myself. I started developing plans for a diorama, and I never believed in backdrops but now I think it could be very cool.
