Vectis Auction for the Lt. (1 Viewer)

. And that sums it up.

Lt.; I can't find them on their site, so i guess one has to order them the old fashioned way right?

I did a google on african landscapen and found some useful pics, maybe paint something myself. I started developing plans for a diorama, and I never believed in backdrops but now I think it could be very cool.

plasmapulse go to their site and click on Exclusive Poster......The Lt.

Thought I'd set up my Trophy Abandon Hospital to compare with the Vectis Trophy Hospital. I'm showing 33 Defenders and 40 Zulus by Trophy where the Vectis Diorama photo showed only 7 defenders along with 8 Zulu Warriors by Trophy......The Lt.

Great photos Lt,
I,ve got to admit I had no real interest in the zulu war period as
far as collecting goes, until you and others starting posting photos
of your collections. The shots of your large display are the buisness !!

I didn't even know about the Zulu Wars until I saw the 1964 movie "Zulu." When I started collecting in the early 1990s, it was one of the focuses of my collecting efforts. I have Trophy's battles of Isandlwana and Ulundi sets on display. I also have separate Rorke's Drift displays from Frontline and Imperial. You might still be able to get your hands on Imperial's Zulu War line locally. It is still available here in the states on eBay and the toy soldier shows. In any case, it is well worth looking into.

Mike would you be good enough to take photos of your displays of Isandlwana and Ulundi and post them........The Lt.

Yikes, I was afraid you might ask me to do that. Your dioramas are so outstanding that I am embarassed to show mine. My displays are all in furniture quality curios. When I try to take a picture I get all kinds of reflections from the glass and me in the photo holding the camera because of the mirror backings. I also have trouble because of the flash on the glass/mirrors; but without it the photos tend to be too dark.

I had a diificult time with photos for the Imperial article. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they are presentable. There is someone ahead of me who has the right of first refusal re a TS & MF article on Trophy. If he doesn't do it, I will. I would like to use some of your photos (attributed to you) if I do the article.

The guy ahead of me is a friend of Len Taylor's and would be able to write a much better article than I could. Len is getting up their in age (what am I talking about, so am I!), I hope he doesn't wait too long. If I do the article, I would love to use your Rorke's Drift Zulu War dioramas, even though I have some in my collection. Yours are far superior. Also I do not have any Trophy Napoleonic or WWI, so anything you could offer would be appreciated. I have Trophy's Boxer Rebellion, Sudan, and Indian Army displays in my collection, but again, assuming you have them you probably have better presentations. However, I am getting ahead of myself---I have to wait to see, if and when, Len's friend does the article.

Hi Mike
I picked up imperials saving the colours yesterday, so i,m going
to add some zulus for opposition the next time I place an order.
I like the look of trophys stuff but its too late in the game to
try and find their sets now.

Let me know if you need any information on what the Zulu War series entailed. I have most sets plus the price lists from Stone Castle in Kentucky. The first set in the series, in 1984, was No. 29 - iNdlondlo Zulu Regt., 1879. The next set No. 30 - uThulwana Zulu Regt., 1879, was discontinued early (problems with the moulds?) and is harder to find. Set No. 34 - Natal Native Horse was discontinued at the same time and is also more rare.

Hi Mike

If you get a chance to post the set numbers and descriptions
on the forum that would be great.
I have some of the coloured cards [not for the zulu line ]they produced and the more recent printed catalogues.
I will probably only collect the sets that can
still be made [or i find locally ]as i,ve had a bad run lately of recieving damaged figures from e bay so its putt me off buying much their.

Here are the sets that were in the line in 1995 from Stone Castle's Price list:

29 iNdlondlo Zulu Regt, 1879
30 uThulwana Zulu Regt, 1879
31 uMbonambi Zulu Regt, 1879
32 91st Highlanders, 1879 (discontinued in 1994)
33 91st Highlanders, 1879, Mtd Officer (discontinued in 1994)
34 Natal Native Horse, 1879 (3 mtd figures)
35 1st Dragoon Guards, 1879 (3 Mtd figures)
36 Ist Dragoon Guards, 1879, Mtd Officer
37 iNluyengwe Zulu Regt, 1879
38a Zulu Warrior Chief, 1879, Mtd
38b Zulu Warrior Chief, 1879, Mtd
39 17th Lancers, 1879 (3 mtd figures)
40 17th Lancers, 1879, Mtd Officer
41 Rorke's Drift, 1879 (19 pieces: 6 Personalities with dog and 12 men of
24th Regt of Foot in 3 boxes)
42 The Storehouse of Rorke's Drift (Scale replica kit of the famous building
made of wood & card, wooden biscuit boxes, cloth mealy bags, rifles and
zulu shields)
43 24th Regt of Foot, 1879 (add-on set)
44 24th Regt of Foot, 1879 (add-on set)
45 Royal Field Artillery Set, 1879
60 inGobamakhosi Zulu Regt, 1879

All zulu sets had 5 figures while the others had 6, unless otherwise noted (e.g., mounted sets had 3 figures).

By 1999, Imperial had added the following Zulu War sets:

78 uThulwana Zulu Regt, 1879 (3 standing & firing, 2 attacking with stabbing spear)

82 24th Regt of Foot, 1879 (2 men bare headed in shirt sleeves, 2 men bare headed, rolled up sleeves, and 2 men with bandaged heads. All have rifles.)

Note: Set No. 45 (Royal Field Artillery) had four figures with a cannon.

Thanks Mike ,its much apreciated .
I,ll print it out to keep as a record ,

Do you still seem much demand for glossys
at the shows you attend or is the end nigh
for traditional toy soldiers and collectors?.

regards Rob
