Hey guys you might be revealing too much about secret Aussie military units based in Darwin.

You know like the 573rd Wombat Para Battalion and the 27th Croc Division^&grin.

Plus his paws are not the right color. They should be darker gray. If I am going to spend that much on a wombat it should be accurate.

Big Mac's! Obesity has hit our wildlife as well!!! {sm4}

I reckon he's been working out mean and hitting the steroids a tad too hard.......I certainly wouldn't want to bump into him on a dark night.{sm5}

We could slip a few across the trench Toddy so it will make your night interesting out on patrol! {sm4}

Bad thread timing - the news from last night!

Emergency crews and croc catchers are searching a Top End river where a Darwin man was taken by a crocodile while swimming.

The 24-year-old man was swimming with a friend yesterday afternoon near the Mary River Wilderness Retreat, about 110 kilometres east of Darwin, when a crocodile attacked.

Locals say a 4.5-metre crocodile is often seen in the same area.

Staff at the holiday park say the man was warned not to swim in the water.

The wilderness retreat's Erin Bayard says crocodiles are very common in the Mary River.

"We do actually tell all our guests not to swim and to stay at least five metres back from the edge of the bank," she said.

Croc catchers have arrived at the site and begun searching for the man.

One witness says he heard up to 20 gunshots in the area where police officers were searching last night.

Amazes me when people are told by locals and SIGNS not to swim,and they swim and they get eaten and they go and shoot the croc who can't read un-believable.

Nah mate, you can keep those nasty's over your side thanks, heaven forbid, we'd need a bloody bazooka to deal with one of those bad-boys{eek3}{sm2}

As for taking a dip anywhere near where one of those lizards dines-out, you'd have to be brain-dead.....you may as well serve ya self up with chips, add a squat of 'Thousand Island' dressing and ring the dinner bell......it's certainly what I would call a 'career limiting move'.

Poor croc, was only doing what comes natural.

The bloke that was taken was a very well known and loved local (I didn't know him though) and apparently he was known to be a very sensible person with his head screwed on straight. I am not certain for sure but I believe he was pretty intoxicated from a party that he attended near the river and he and a mate decided to swim the river either as a dare, race or just being gallah's. It was a very stupid thing to do and unfortunately it cost him his life but this is what alcohol can do to people and I dare say he wouldn't have swum that river if he was sober or even mildly pissed.

Water and alcohol is just a bad idea altogether. It is a sad story. The people on the river bank saw it all, it was nightmare material. At least they found his body.

Forget shooting crocs - we should just shoot every cat we can find. They are the real enemy of mankind.

Yeah John, bad all round and terrifying for his friends to witness. Generally the authorities do recover the bodies as croc's don't eat it's prey straight away and prefer to stash them away under a log or in it's lair so it can rot away. It's easier for them to eat but pretty rank on the nose! That's what they do when they grab cattle, pigs, wallabies, buffaloes etc.

I guess you don't want a pic of my mum's fluffy white pussy cat then! {sm4}

What a waste of life mate.

Yeah mate, it is and I know that river well and fished on it many times (without catching bugger all I might add). You can get complacent even with signs posted at the boat ramp as it is a nice stretch of water and a lot of the time you don't even see any croc's.
