The Texas Toy Soldier Show is only 3 weeks away!
Visit our new shop again or see it for the first time while you're in Texas!

5945 Broadway
San Antonio, TX 78209
210-226-7000

Mon-Tue 10-5, Wed 12-5, Thu-Sat 10-5

King & Country Texas is a 15 minute drive north of downtown San Antonio.
While you're traveling down Broadway to visit the shop, you'll come across The San Antonio Museum of Art, The Pearl, Cheever Books, The Botanical Gardens, Brackenridge Park, The Witte Museum and a plethora of great restaurants.
There's more than one reason to take the short trip down Broadway.

Here's a look at the shelves I've been working on here in the recent days. Ancient Egypt is my current favorite to work on, its like setting a sound stage.

Let me know if there is anything I can help you with while you're in Texas and hope to see y'all soon!

Best from Texas,

Amber Martinez-Garcia

Amber you have nailed these displays. Enjoying the Ancient Egypt series is a favourite of mine as well. Certainly the best way to promote sales of figures and vehicles, giving ideas to customers of what they can achieve themselves. What a cool work place you have created. All the best for the upcoming show. Robin.

Fantastic displays. Just going to the shop would be enough reason to visit Texas

So cool! I esp. like the Vietnam display. Top notch.

Then again, the Cattle Drive/Western dio is equally impressive.

I highly recommend taking a trip to K&C Texas this weekend or any other time.

The shop is beautiful, parking is easy and the customer service is unbeatable.

My younger Bro is heading to San Antonio in the next few days transporting a friends 2x dogs back east and I've asked him to pop into the K&C store.

Its part of a cunning plan to get him hooked into the hobby.... {eek3}:wink2:^&grin

That's great! Looking forward to meeting him and the dogs! We're a dog friendly shop. Just last week we had a visit from a gorgeous German Shepherd named Tess.
I'm sure your brother will enjoy his travels in Texas. Hopefully one day we can see you in the shop as well!

Thanks Jason! Have a great time at the show this weekend. There's a lot going on downtown this weekend, but at least it should be dry.
In years past, as I'm sure you remember, there's been some torrential rain during Memorial Day weekend.

Hello Amber,
I was just wondering why you don’t buy a table at the Texas Toy Soldier Show and everyone can see your beautiful displays there among like minded customers. It seems like a small expense for a show in your own backyard. There must still be some bad blood between K&C and the Menger Hotel. Also your new store does not look wheelchair accessible from the new photos.

Howdy Howard:
Thanks for reaching out. There is certainly not any bad blood between K&C and The Menger Hotel. We were thrilled to see it back to its former glory after they shuttered their doors in 2020.
Exhibiting at a Toy Soldier Show does not lend itself to a one-man band. With loading, transporting to the hotel, setting up, watching over our merchandise, selling/showing products over two full days, breaking everything down, transporting back to the shop and also having our newly renovated, fully stocked shop running as normal. Logistically, it isn't in the cards at the moment.

What I'd really love is for folks to take the 15-minute car ride up to see all the hard work put into our new shop. We're packed to the brim with K&C and have all the latest releases. I can offer you a cup of coffee or tea and we can have a chat over toy soldiers. When Andy is in town, he'll take you for a walk down the street for a lovely iced coffee and sweet bun. We just love the atmosphere in Alamo Heights and of course, are so proud of the new shop. We just couldn't fathom closing the shop to go downtown and show only two or three tables worth of toy soldiers.

The shop is very much wheel chair accessible. We've quadrupled the amount of room we had down at The Menger for navigating the shop. Around the back, where our parking lot is, there is an accessibility lift.

All the being said, we wish The Texas Toy Soldier Show, Britains, Ken, Erika, Martin & his team a very successful show this weekend and in the future. I'm happy to see the show back, its a testament to the hobby and collectors like yourself.

Hope to welcome you and everyone in town this weekend to our new shop at 5945 Broadway.

G’Day Amber,
Many thanks for responding…I could not have said it better!
King & Country have a huge breadth of product and subject matter that cannot be fully represented on just one or even half a dozen show tables over a 2-Day Show…

What we do have is the most beautiful Toy Soldier Store in the United States that has the most inclusive and extensive range of virtually all of King & Country’s ranges of historical figures, fighting vehicles and display accessories including many rare and retired items that can be difficult to find elsewhere!

At the same time visitors can also see some of my late brother Gordon’s display/ dioramas which show off K&C’s handiwork at its best alongside more recent releases.

Put all of that and much more together with Amber’s friendliness, helpfulness and hospitality in a handsome setting and you have a combination and destination that’s hard to beat and a ‘must-to-visit’.

By all means enjoy the Texas Show…But take some time to see ‘KING & COUNTRY TEXAS’…You won’t regret it!
All the very best and…Happy Collecting!

Andy.

Cheers Andy,

I can also imagine the stress and hassle of moving them, the issue of potential breakages and damage. I know i did when i recently packed away my way smaller collection for room decorating. Plus what to take, there are so many great dioramas. I assume staffing would also be a problem, as Toy Soldier companies are not big employers and the staff will be needed for the shop, plus there will be plenty of dealers of K & C at the show as well, so would also just be a cost to K & C, as taking stock would also ne a massive headache.

How far is it away, 4 to 5 miles? If yes very close.

The pictures you took of the shop look great, how about a small run of threads, each one one concentrating on one of dioramas, possibly one a month to give us a more indepth view of the great displays you have, to inform and inspire.

Hello Amber,
Thank you for your gracious reply. I was thinking that even if you had a small presence there where you could promote your new location and pass out your current brochures it would help the show. We all know that you are one of the heavy hitters in the hobby and it could bring more dealers and with that higher attendance at the show. I am hoping that the show keeps getting larger because it is the only show in this part of the country and would love to see you back in it.

Wishful Thinking

I forgot to mention kudos for putting in the wheelchair lift. I did not see it in original pictures.

Thanks

Yeah we all know how much I love those downtown festivities.

I will never forget when I came down to the old shop on that “quiet” Saturday night in December.

I was so wrong, that night had the Christmas tree lighting and Spurs game. Worst night ever.

The new shop has none of that, but it still has Amber. :)

If I ever get down your way, Kings X will be one of my first stops. I never got to the store in Hong Kong, so this will be the next best thing.

Brad:

When you do make it to the shop, please let me know. Lunch or dinner is on me. We can even include other collectors in the area.

It would be great to meet-up with you in person after all these years of chatting on the forum.

The shop really is worth a visit. It is beautiful.

Best,
Jason

Andy, with the greatest respect i think calling your Texas location a 'Shop' is incorrect............ It should be called a Temple, maybe a Shrine, for collectors of Toy Soldiers.

I did visit the shop in HK, way back in 2008, know it has now moved, remember flew in from New Zealand, got there lunchtime and chceked in hotel, went up to to room, literally just dropped off my bags on the bed and went straight to the K & C shop. it was a piece of heaven and i think the ladies that worked there must have thought i was a bit 'weird' as i went in everyday for 4 straight days and bought something.

I flew into HK from New Zealand on my way to the UK in 2014. Went to the shop on my birthday after my wife treated me to lunch. Bought as much as I could reasonably fit into my suitcase and went back to the hotel for a swim and a great Chinese evening meal. I remember the hotel made me a cake. One of my best birthdays.

I also flew from N Zealand on way back to UK and was there for New Year 08 to 09. After a month on NZ South Island, hiking, mountain biking [Gold trail was excellent] and a bit of climbing. It was a bit of shock to the system, the crowds, as i had spent 4 days on a hike in NZ and saw 7 people in 2 groups in those 4 days.

I think K & C HK shop is the destination for us 'elite', as that is how i think of Toy Soldier collectors, just a little above non-collectors. I even got some people who worked in the organisation i worked for in the early 2010s to collect for me from the shop when they were there for meetings, only talking 3 to sets and i told them to open them and check they were happy. All were happy too, except one, but she softened her point of view when it was pointed out, by someone else, i was the person who assigned the projects to people and was the budget holder for the trip and cleared and signed off the expenses.

Have been buying from the K & C HK shop for a few years, usually every couple of months, i have learned to keep the amount as low as possible, but above the free postage threshold and i have only paid customs charges once in around 14 orders. My last one was for $251, $1 above the threshold, not on purpose, i wanted those sets, but it did make me chuckle.

Finally - Kirsty at K & C is a delight to deal with, a star.
