Waffen SS (1 Viewer)

About the faces, I have also had a tough time with them. There is just something weird about them in pictures. Once I have the figures it doesn't bother me as much, but have more than once checked myself before buying a figure because of the "startling" facial features. Again, once I get them I don't tend to notice, but can still get put off of buying a new figure due to the face even though I don't seem to care once I get them in hand.

Maybe I'm in left field here, but I consider the face thing this way. The faces are not "wrong" or "ugly", but distinct. First Legion has a certain style in regards to their facial sculpting, which it seems is most noticeable among their WW2 range. Again, nothing wrong with it, but it is recognizable as being FL. It is like the artwork from Ronald Volstad, who had a distinct way of doing faces in all of his artwork. I used to do a lot of 1:35 WW2 models from Dragon Models. I remember one of the easiest ways to tell if Volstad did the artwork was from the faces.

I like that ''dorky faces''!! over here we say hit with an ugly stick but, its a similar comparison. I have to say that I have voiced my concerns about the facial features on the WWII figures only before but, these are a huge improvement and, the facial issues mentioned are not ones that are making me think these are not buyable. I am anxiously awaiting these I think they look very good. I like SS camo patterns and, look forward to seeing more varied ones as this range of troops expands

Hi Mitch ,
I told Matt to hold you one of each to start :wink2: . I knew you would not be able to resist these guys , the Camo is incredible I can make out three distinct patterns so far from the photos I have seen... four if you count two versions of M44dot pattern one printed on Drill HBT and one on smooth Cotton/Rayon blend , these really are impressive just where will this line go.. I wonder . Cheers Gebhard

Hope we can get a update on the new SS range sometime??, I took another look at the First Legion site with the other SS soldier in the heading and with the ones shown here it should be a great start to this new range...Sammy

So along with this original picture release we now have a SS runner, a SS throwing grenade,(on website) this range when announced already has a nice amount of soldiers in it to begin with:)...Sammy

Does anyone have any hints as to when the SS figures will be released?

I heard rumor of June or July but this did not come from Matt so I would not put money on it . I have not looked at these photo's in sometime but everytime I do I'm blown away by the painting of the Camo best {eek3}I have seen period :salute:: .............regards Gebhard

I haven't heard of any particular date, but if I remember correctly last June (I was on vacation) the Paras came out, so maybe lightning will strike twice:) esp. since I'm going on vacation again!! when ever it is, it will be well worth the wait as this range has alot of collectors waiting to see them in the flesh, or metal:) I just check the website every now and then so hopefully we will get a newsletter or update on the SS range soon...Sammy

The only bad thing is I have Stalingrad, now Rebs and then Waffen SS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A dilemma!

Seeing that two more have popped up in the images a grenade throwing trooper and a Panzerschreck trooper it is surprising that they have not been released so, seven at the moment but, I am looking forward to these and, I think that its obvious they will Be GVB 17th SS fighting the US Para's at Normandy so, maybe that will be the main focus for a while but, I would like to see FL address two or one of the pivotal events of Normandy with Brit Para's either Pegasus or Merville actions. Hell, they don't even have to be P!!!!
Mitch

I think you have a good enough eye to know they already will be P and that stands for premium to most:wink2: but I'm sure pricey for others {eek3}... And for Brit Paras and the Pegasus or Merville actions IMO if First Legion bring on Brits whether to Battle the First Legion DAK or their Normandy SS figures it will open the flood gates. Many collectors for many reasons just love British figures and are chomping at the bit for FL to produce some WWII versions, time will tell. regards Gebhard

I don't know if it's just me but it looks like the discussion about the officer and grenade thrower have been fixed, I pulled up the first pics of the SS and yesterdays new pics and compared them side by side and it looks as though both SS soldiers have been improved in the facial area, again maybe I'm seeing it differently but they both look better to me, esp. the officer pointing...Sammy

I agree Sammy...I think the faces are not bad....Especially the Waffen officer pointing...Not bad at all....Please tell me which other TS manufacturer is doing a better job on WWII "faces"?????{sm4}

These new First Legion Waffen SS need panzer support....How about a Normandy Camoflage FL King Tiger Tank???.....Also US Troops need an FL Sherman.:salute::

I with you on the Sherman Frank, that would be a great piece to add with the Paras, as far as the SS throw me a camo Tiger/Panther tank and I'll be happy:)...Sammy
