War of 1812? (1 Viewer)

Does that mean I could put together a (1817-18) Seminole Indian War display with these guys?

Ron

Hi Ron!
These fellows could stand in for the 4th or the 7th US Infantry as deployed in the Florida Territory in the summer of 1816, the fall of 1817 or with Jackson's actions at St. Marks or Pensacola in 1818. remember that most of the US troops in the Southern department would probably be wearing the white cotton Round Jacket if not the Blue wool Regimentals with white tape trim on the collars, however. In a pinch you could use these new figures if you wanted to...as there is little else to use...for the moment.
Although Charles Hamilton Smith shows the 5th US wearing white crossbelts in his 1817 watercolour...evidence is that the US Infantry was still using up the black harness crossbelts widely issued since 1808.
Now all you need are Seminoles, Spanish Moss covered trees and a swamp.
Hope this helps, Ken Osen

The versatility of these figures are starting to tempt me. Where as I started late collecting JJD FIW sets (many of which are no longer available or hard to find), perhaps this is the right time for a newby like me to jump in with the War of 1812. Almost tempted to order the first two sets and preorder the rest. This hobby is making my hand shake - the one that is holding my cc - LOL!

Well ..... ????

Time for Britians to STEP UP and Produce their new great range : THE SEMINOLE INDIAN WARS !! :D

Thanks for the info - look forward to seeing you in Gettysburg.

Well I went and did it. I just ordered 2 sets of USCH-01 and 1 set of USCH-02. Looking forward to these with great anticipation. Cheers!

Eeeeeexcellent! Evil laughter

I think I relate to your previous post a bit re: just missing the initial wave with some of the FIW things and feeling in a position now to start 1812 from the outset. I have little doubt this is going to be a brilliant range as well and I think it has added appeal in its geographic setting being similar to the FIW. Very good move, and 2 sets of USCH01 no less.

Thanks for the vote of confidence DM. I have basically missed out on all of the BM/FM and the BQ/FQ sets. I have been able to complete the VM and WIM sets and will get all of the Raid on St Francis sets. After reading the posts regarding the War of 1812 sets I think this is going to be a very interesting series to collect. I think its great that JJD is covering an historical time period such as 1812 which is not being offered by anyone else - a smart marketing move in my opinion.

Hi Ron!
John and I chatted a bit about the War of 1812 and other 'small' wars in the young Republic at the London Show. Under the new W.Britain 'Museum Series' we will vist some of these periods from time to time including the War of 1812 with historically correct uniforms and equipment based on current research. I have been lucky enough over the years to have worked with museums and also do independant research into the material culture of this period. There are lots of interesting uniforms for organizations on both sides of the Border, and as you pointed out, other small conflicts into the 1820s.
Hope to see you and others at the Gettysburg show.
All the Best!
Ken Osen

Okay, well this series is starting to shape up nicely with the addition of USCH sets 03 and 04. I am contemplating adding another set of each, but also looking forward to seeing 05, 06, and 07 in the next couple of months. Plus add in the wounded set pictured below in unpainted form which I presume to be 08, and you start to get a pretty impressive looking grouping. This is what I have so far:

Thanks Tex. These guys look very sharp indeed. Looking forward to catching a glimpse of the opposition one of these days too. I'm guessing 1st Royal Scots, but we'll just see about that.

I almost forgot--that grey line needs someone to shoot at!

Yes indeed they do, and I'm hoping for some cannons and horses of course. We shall see.

Can someone share ... what would the 1st Royal Scots (or any other potential nemesis) look like in that time period and theatre of operations.

Much appreciated.

Sorry I cannot provide a direct link, but under a previous thread, "New releases for February-what is going to be arriving" Lenswerks provided a link to one of Don Troiani's books with an image of 104th Regt. of Foot (New Brunswick Regt.), another potential adversary. The post in question is #21 in the thread. Appearance should very comparable to any Napoleonic era British infantry. Hope that is helpful.

Yes, I believe that is the very guy I was referring to. Thanks!

MD

No, wait, thats him. If I'd taken the time to read the caption on the first photo I'd have noticed he is from the Royal Scots. Don't you think either of these examples would look great in the JJD style? (I do :))

Thanks for helping us out with the photos guys!

MD

Guys

Thanks for the links ... nice. Cant wait until JJD comes out with 1812 redcoats.

Perhaps X'mas 2008

This is a fun little teaser from JJD's website showing at least 6 new figures I think. 2 of them in the middle foreground appear to be from the wounded set pictured earlier in this thread. There is a guy in the middle background falling to one side with his rifle, and then 3 guys on the right of photo (2 marching and 1 standing looking to the front...perhaps another officer or NCO).
