Wars of the Roses – picked up my first order today! (2 Viewers)

Re: Wars of the Roses – picked up my first order today!

Kind of dipped my toes into this series. On a whim, since I really like the colors, I purchased the Club figure of Pvt. Jenkins of the Yorkish army. I really like this figure. It is the first non-Poilu figure I have purchased in quite a while. My fear is that I am now running a fever and the only cure is more cowbell...uh, I mean more WoR's figures. -- Al

Al, you're on a roll. "more cowbell". LOL. Love that SNL skit.

I just heard, Don't Fear the Reaper, on the radio and immediately thought of more cowbell. LOL.

Just trying to gently ease the thread back on track............

I received the latest WOR Bowmen (two of each) yesterday - to swell my Bosworth shelf. Hopefully I'll be running out of space soon!

Just a wonderful, wonderful series...............

These are great looking figures!! Congratulations on your new purchases. Your collection looks very nice.

This is not my area of interest at all but it goes to show you just how talented John is in crafting these little works of art!

Hi Mark, Thank you!

John does seem to also have a talent for drawing you ( well, me!) into new areas of collecting.

Much to my surprise, I fell completely into the "Leuthen" series - something light years from my then collecting interests!

Nice figures Roy and (yet again) a nice shelf display. Is this why I have not heard from you ?

Anyway, hope all is well and look forward to a catch up at some stage soon.

Best regards

Malcolm.

Re: Wars of the Roses – picked up my first order today!

Hi all,

Just a little update on my Wars of the Roses Battle of Bosworth Field collection.

I have bought each release as they have come out since the series launch back in August 2015 (if my memory serves me right…….)

I thought I’d use my old original thread to illustrate just how prolific this series is (and there is an awful lot more to come I’m sure.)

My collection went from the original four releases to one shelf. Then to two shelves,
then four shelves. I now have an overspill of two small glass shelves. I still have them set up in their Retinues for now.
A total of 109 figures so far - a fair few multiples.
This series has been a constant pleasure to collect and led to many enjoyable visits to the Bosworth locale.

I would seem to be in a bit of a minority on here  as I root for the Yorkists. (and I prefer their retinue colours :))
I would highly recommend for anyone interested a book by Michael Jones: “Bosworth 1485 - Psychology of a Battle”. It gives a different aspect to Richard III and the battle entirely. It was quite an eye opener for me.

I'm a yorkist too!!! I feel Richard III was much maligned by history and wild bill Shakespeare
If you like well researched historical fiction, the sunne in splendor is one of my favorite books

Re: Wars of the Roses – picked up my first order today!

Always nice to view your WoR collection updates Roy . . . . . Currently this is one of my favorite ranges to collect also, except I just started collecting it this year, unlike you who have been collecting from the very start. I really like your individual shelf displays with the segregated Retinues . . . . . my collection is all on one shelf and it is getting very crowded at this point. Thanks for sharing . . . . nice way to start my morning . . .

Re: Wars of the Roses – picked up my first order today!

I prefer the Yorkists, as well. Like the color combos and Richard III. Fantastic collection and love the way you have it displayed by retinue. My collection is far more modest, 27 figures, with the Yorkists being in the majority. The series has huge gaps in the numbering sequences which certainly indicates many future releases. -- Al

Thank you kindly Al! I was looking at the series numbers myself a little while ago. There are a four archers that have yet to make an appearance and a couple of standing Knights, two mounted knights - but I'm most excited about the "several casualty figures to be released" oh, and not forgetting Artillery................. these would all make up a lot of missing serial numbers........^&grin

Old Bill;

Thank you for this post of your outstanding collection of this series !
You also have a few unique figures that I have not seen (except in your posts).

It would seem from replies to the thread that you may not be in the minority...it appears that I may be, although for many years I was a member of the "Richard III Society"...the 'Across the Pond' branch...for the time, it was a great source of information and publications on the last Plantagenet.
