Wars of the Roses Knights (1 Viewer)

These are beautiful figures! coincidentally I have just started Conn Igguldens series of books on The War of the Roses, now I was not at all famliar with this conflict other than it was basically a struggle for power between English royal houses. The First book begins in 1443 is this the roots of the struggle and these figures in a later time period?

Great picture! It's interesting that St Barbara was chosen as the patron saint of gunners to protect them from their own guns malfunctioning and killing the crews, a frequent occurrence with these early pieces.

Cheers,

Brendan

I think this is a useful "potted guide" to WOR, Ray - jb

Just got John Howard (NFYork 01) and his heraldic banner man (NFYork 02) and they are simply superb figures. I now have a half-dozen of this lovely series and I can only blame John's artistry in developing these figures. I had no interest in this historic period beyond a vague interest in Richard III, but these wonderful sculpts have dragged me into a series I had no intention of collecting. They now rival John's Jacobite Hielanders as my favorite figures. Just splendid work all around. -- Al

I concur with your thoughts completely Al . . . . Like you, I had no intentions to collect this range but I must say that I am hooked on it now. This has also led me to read more about the Wars of the Roses and especially the Battle of Bosworth Field. How Richard III could be defeated when he so greatly outnumbered Henry Tudor is quite interesting . . . .

Thank you JB, I think?? might be standard school boy fare in the UK but in the reading I find it hard to follow all the unfamiliar names and connection. The book is a good read and I'm sure by the end of the series I'll have the gist of it.

Yes - all thios names can be confusing Ray.

I don't know if you will ever get to see it again over there Ray, I know it was broadcast in the USA a while ago - but a series of TV episodes by our BBC, (2013) - was excellent. It was called "The White Queen" - the title referring to Elizabeth Woodville - who married Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond - who would eventually become Henry VII, the first in the Tudor dynasty, after Richard was "piteously slain" at Bosworth field.

By the by, for those in the dark, White Rose was the emblem for Lancastrians; and a Red Rose symbolised Yorkists - Hence our term for the series of conflicts now - Wars of the Roses. Previously it has also been referred to as "The Cousins War" - due to the family relationships of the contestants for the English throne. Hence the term "The White Queen" for Henry VII's wife, Elizabeth.

Here's a Wiki write up about the series - which I highly recommend - I was absolutely glued to the TV for every episode. Catch it if you can. jb

CORRECTION:

I muddled up my roses. I got them the wrong way round in my last post. On re-reading, I realised I had it wrong. The correct flowers were -

Red Rose - Lancaster

White Rose - York

How silly - only two choices - and I muddled them up. Apologies to all - jb

I should have all the sets except Feb release, HLANC15 and 16.
I received 10 sets today that included 2 Golden Tickets. Yay.
So sometime this weekend I hope to get a photo that includes them all - ~48 figures.

Good for you and congratulations . . . . . I ordered 8 sets today, mostly earlier released archers . . . . trying to acquire the 2015 and earlier 2016 releases before they are retired and hard to find. Some of the archers and billmen are starting to be scarce . . . . many are out of stock and on back order. I should get the 8 sets early next week which will give me 12 sets in total . . . . . Certainly have a ways to go to match your 48 . . . .

Mike 48 or 50 figures in 35 sets so should be an interesting photo.

Wow Donnie! Truly impressive . . . . . This pic will certainly motivate interest in this range . . . . . I know that I am now further inspired and looking forward to developing my collection further . . . .

Truly spectacular

I agree. This may be another instance in which JJ really intends the sets to be displayed together to achieve their full effect. It would be interesting to see the concept art that was done for the range as a whole.

You can just imagine in say 2years time what these masses figures will look like.

I have a few of them, but have concentrated on the planes and WW1 Brits lately.
