Completely agree. Britains figures are the best on the market. I collect WW1 and some glossies, as well as having many of the ACW and older, classic figures. Their wide range of figures, both matte and gloss, mean there is something for everyone. And they are the original TS company for many of us. -- AlWhile other companies slug it out as to who is Top Dog, Britains steadily has great products and will be remembered long after the others are forgotten.

You mention some excellent companies. I should have made myself clearer. I meant that Britains makes the best figures I can afford to buy. Obviously the Aeroart are in a league of their own, (as are their prices), and I have never seen First Legion in person, (but I can't afford them, either), so Britains becomes my choice. I collect both KC and JJD and they are both outstanding but I believe Britains offers the better deal, pricewise, and their figures (matte) are superior in sculpting and realistic painting. On the glossy side Britains has no competition in the price range I can afford. I love Somerset, (price prevents me from buying and adding to my current collection of them), and Trophy is gone and very expensive on the secondary market. I like Imperial, but, price and accessibility come into play. Britains fits my budget but would be my favorite even if they cost as much as KC or JJD. Britains new catalog is full of stuff I like and that War on the Nile series will be capturing more of my dollars. Neat stuff. -- lancerRespectful disagreement: they do have some fantastic figures, either matte or glossy, but their figures are not the best on the market IMHO.
In my opinion the best on the market are:
Glossy-Imperial Productions;
Matte-King and Country and possibly becoming a future n.1: First Legion;
Connoisseur-Aeroart or Kolobob sold Russian figures.
I do collect Britains wonderful FIW glossy Redcoats/Bluecoats and to me those are their best figures.
Those are my feelings right now, so sorry but the new catalog did little for me...

I agree that Britains offers good value and I have a number of them for that reason but I am a bit puzzled by your observation that you could not afford FL? At their respective price levels two Britains figures are equal to 1.2 FL figures or if you buy 5 Britains figures you could afford to buy 3 FL ones. It would seem to be more of a quantity issue which I understand all too well since I cannot afford to buy all I would like.You mention some excellent companies. I should have made myself clearer. I was looking at the new WB 95th figures listed at TF for $27 each, a couple of which I just bought, versus the FL Napoleonic foot soldiers currently at $45. To me the mounted figures are quite a different matter for reasons I have recently explained but the current ratio is still about 2 to 1.18.I think you will find especially with the new releases Bill that it more like 2:1 ratio. Britains mounted figures are listed as $63 - $70, foot figures range from $23 - $30 IMO no matter how good FL are that slows down my chances of buildings a size able dio. Which is what I am after, the overall effect.

Indeed, 30 figures versus 45 or 50 for example; either way a wallet mass effect. I do think though that given the math, between these two it is not a question of single figures versus dioramas but rather how many figures you want in your dioramas.This is a very good point. Does one want mass effect and dioramas? Or to display single figures? Choices, choices... Either away $$$ mass effect on my wallet.
