What is current interest level in Romans? (1 Viewer)

Short answer: HIGH !

And why?
Well, in Germany you find a lot of tarces from the time of the roman empire.
In fact, our house is standing is on top of an old roman fortress.
When they started with the excavation for the new houses here, they found remains of the old Limes and a fortress.
Sometimes when I'm sitting in my garden I think of the guys who where here before me - some 2000 years ago. :smile2:

Very High for me. I always wanted to get K&C's Romans and Barbarians, but unfortunately I missed out on all of them was collecting World War II at the time. So now I would like to collect a descent Roman series and it looks like First Legion will be it. I do have the new conte set and a few East of India Romans but unfortunately thats it.

First Legion isn't?? East of India isn't?? St. Pete isn't?? Not sure I follow....^&confuse^&confuse

Ahhh, good point mate... I do take it for granted where I live and have tremendous access to shows and dealers.

Best regards

Waiting to see pricing of FL Glory of Rome series in the UK. With single figures for current ranges retailing at around US$80 (and upwards) a piece not a cheap purchase.

So will wait for Conte's forthcoming releases which for me will fit my budget better. Shame that the Winter Games piece has sat alone for so long.

Would love to see Thomas Gunn do some Romans his action poses are A1.

This is the only range that I am interested in at the moment aside from a few odds and ends in various eras and makes. FL is looking to be the best ever Roman range produced next to Aeroart. Hopefully, the prices won't be any higher than what their Napoleonic range sells for...

Well, here we are in Mid- May-

1.) FL has announced a line of Romans and Barbarians which look very appealing to everyone

2.) The Collectors Showcase comes out of nowhere to launch their first ancients line and gives us the 14th in Britain

3.) Conte appears to be taking steps towards delivering on some promises and issuing some amazing figures as well

4.) Could KC not be too terribly far behind?? Couple possibilities here- certainly the Life of Jesus line wouldn't be complete without some Romans though I am not sure they would mix very well with the previous three offerings- I'm thinking of the poses- probably not battle poses. Also- perhaps with the hinting of the Athenian Marine and Greece line they might delve into the wars between Greece and the Roman Republic???

Great times ahead my friends!!

HAIL CAESAR!!

I would say it is more feast or famine.^&grin From the way it looks, there will be some interesting choices and as usual most will not mix with each other. FL and Conte may match in size and CS is more likely to match K&C in size but would be a better fit with Conte and FL in style. So it depends on what you are after but it is amazing to have so many options all of a sudden. I am really looking forward to the FL release and will be interested to see how the Conte figures fit as well.

This sudden flood of available product is amazing. Roman collectors must be one happy group right about now. This kind of product bunching is seen in book publishing quite a bit. A certain subject will go ages, sometimes decades, without a book being done on it, then all of a sudden 2, 3, or more books will show up about that subject all within a few months of each other. An embarrassment of riches, as it were. Enjoy the new releases, all. It's great! -- Al

Well it seems that the TS world has gone made for Romans

Have to say I was getting a bit bored of WWII and the endless Tigers, Shermans and Panthers and so I think the Ancients are very appealing.

It will be interesting to see these in person - though given the delivery dates - in the UK it will not be until the next show which will probably be December !!! I will be interested to see what sizes they are and whether they are compatible in terms of style / size etc. Also the opposition; prefer Britons to Gauls

Looking at the three manufacturers these are some of my favourites so far. The Conte Shield Wall and the FL throwing the pilum

Gazza-

kudos to you for supporting Conte. I think a lot of us have heard things one way or the other about the company and it seems there is a stigma attached but I hope you do enjoy them. I like the Romans he did and is planning to do but I particulalry liked the barbarians he did even better- dollar for dollar, those figures were tough to beat!!

Hats off to the manufacturers who are producing these Romans. All three look fantastic and if I was collecting them I really don't know which I would collect.Probably all three.^&grin

For me all the producers have produced great figures; the options are good.

I just like the shield wall as I understand it was a key formation as the Roman's fought behind it and used there short stabbing swords - that is until I am sure battles degenerated into melee's.

It will be neat to see what comes from the "Big 3" producing archers in support of their Romans. Need to have a Syrian/Parthian- Middle Eastern feel to them.

If there isn't enough interest maybe this YouTube video might help drum up some support. The video gets even better mid way through it.
