I am at the point in my K&C collecting of WWII figures, armor and aircraft of what fork in the road do I want to focus on. Retired items that I have been eyeing or diverting funds for this year's pending surprises and release.Option three Could be a balance between some of both. I guess the main point here that most would agree with is buy
`what you like`regardless of whether it is new or retired. With this year looking like the best yet for interesting new releases coming......What is your personal take on this?

I buy RETIRED ITEMS - so I buy lots of ARNHEM / MARKET GARDEN figures - LOL - ^&grin snicker, snicker ^&grin - sorry couldn't help myself ! :)

Would have to be both. A lot of new releases but when that Holy Grail appears it's game on. Problem with every retired piece bought another one steps in line.

It would seem most collectors go back and find the retired items that they wanted for some time while picking up the hot new releases that come out. I think the retirements keep things very interesting. :wink2:

If i mist it i don't need it
By the way newer releases are alot better
than old ones

For me , as I'm new to collecting King and Country , retired or new , they're all new to me in a way. It's down to what I like and then can I afford it.

Same as Wayne for me, but there are the subtle pressures - the impending retirements of the Scots Grey made them just that bit more attractive, while retirements from previous years are more easily disregarded as the 'never met them, won't miss them' group!

I'm very slow to get retired items. I wanted to get some more Germans for my 2x3 trench dio (pics this weekend) but all the dead guys were retired {eek3}. I'm thinking about buying plastics and burying them in the mud! I also got the Kiwi Spitfire just in time. Although i'd say if something goes out that I wasn't fussed on I don't mind.

What I find at the moment is that I'm concentrating on newer items but with this exception. I have three diorama's I'm planning right now that will need figures and sets from The Bulge, RAF, FOB,Normandy ranges, if any of these sets I need are retired in the meantime I will pause my new purchases and get these particular sets as some of them are absolutely central to the scenes I'm planning. Thats how its working for me right now:)

I'm usually happy with current figures, as my budget is limited, and well, there are certainly enough things current that I want. I do allow myself the occasional 'retired' piece if a special occasion provides me with bonus funds though and I can find the right price. If I was rich, there are certainly some old sets I would try to get.

Retired. Now that Frontline has its Seven Years War Prussian line out, and now that John Jenkins is bringing out a line of Seven Years War figures, I've started collecting the Hessians. I can easily modify them to correct some minor inaccuracies and to backdate them to SYW Hessians.

Prost!

I buy in both fronts the sets I like and feel the need for. As the retired are mostly an item of opportunity, when the right piece appears for the right price I grab it, and postpone the newer stuff. I only buy a new release right when its disclosed when I feel it will be sold out fast, which is mostly the case with cool limited runs. I've been doing this for years, and I think it has been a pretty successful strategy for me.

My priority is generally things that are retired that I want in the ranges I collect before they disappear forever. The only exception to this is when K&C release a "limited item" that I've just got to have then I buy the new release.

Generally I am at the whim of Andy and when he makes releases. (See the NEVER thread ...). When there is a long time between releases then I get to back fill my ranks with the retired pieces.
Of course ,my main issues here that some folks charge TWO arms and a leg for the item SIMPLY because there is a retired tags beside it.

I know what you mean. I don't mind bidding on something online, but when the starting or buy it now price is 4 or 5 times the original retail it makes you shake your head and wonder.Items which start out at a reasonable asking price and continue to climb through multiple bids is fair game to me IMO.

I think there is two ways to look at it,
1. If you are buying the cheaper the better, naturally. 2. If you're selling of course you want the best price you can get.
I see King and Country as an investment, in the future all the figures you have should be worth more than what you paid for them.
Let's hope so anyway.
Waynepoo.
