What the SCALE is going on? (1 Viewer)

you said "My guess is that your " 1/30 " is more 1/29-1/28 "

You are right. I should have been more absolute. Easy 8 Sherman length 5.84m = 19'2" x 1/30 scale = 7 11/16"..actual model 8 1/4" ( 1/2" too long ) x 1/29 scale = 7 15/16"...x 1/28 scale = 8 1/16" There are any number of websites out there offering scale conversion charts or calculators for those collectors who might care..Michael

Does the the CSC Sherman look right next to the rest of the CSC tanks ?

It is near the same length as the Panzer 4 ,but not as wide. Still using the scale calculators, the Panzer is also larger than 1/30. My CS Panther is out being repainted, so I cannot verify the specs for that one..Michael

Also, we were told that the CS Tiger was not 1/30 and so the models offered since were corrected. The facts are that CS got it right with the Tiger .....
6.29m length = 20'8" x 1/30 = 8 1/4" ( actual for model 8 1/4" ) 3.55m width = 11'8" x 1/30 = 4 11/16" ( actual 4 9/16" ) 3.0m height = 9'10" x 1/30 = 3 15/16"
actual 3 6/16" ) Almost spot on..What made CS think that they needed to change anything, after that release. It does not make sense..Michael

I think it has been answered now and I am sure that after the Tiger 1 expalnation by CS we were told that AFV's would be larger and, true to his word we are seeing bigger AFV's.

How much of the " change "was marketing just to make his line more exclusive, implying collectors were being mislead by the other mfg. concept of 1/30...Results might vary because of imput, but formulas and calculations that have been around since the beginning of time do not. Do the math or do not care..Every collectors' choice..Michael

In regards to a Jagdtiger and Jagdpanther our new correctly scaled 1/30th afv line is intended to continue until every wartime vehicle is complete in this scale. Onward!, Onward I say! :)

Thanks for all of your kind feedback, now lets move out! :D

:) Hello! I'm in Favor of the 1/30th or 1/29th Scale , if CS Continues to make the ARMOR a Little Larger! Don't want any MANUFACTURER, going into the Smaller 54MM Scale! I'm going to Purchase the 'NEW' M4AE8U.S. Sherman , CS Tank soon!I hope it is HEAVY in eight and the Gun Turret and Barrel be made of STEEL! CIAO!

Have to say I like the sound of that announcement, I don't really know about a marketing ploy I just get the feeling that CS wanted to do something their own way and have done at a great price and with great detail.

They have always offered the market something different from day one and, continue to do so with some unique design traits. I am still contemplating another manufacturer doing my favourite AFV's a Jagdtiger and the excellent Brumbar and, if the pics of the KT are anything to go by they will be amazing.

What I like about CS tank's is the level of detail + they come with metal grill & parts when were told by other company's it can't be done

Quite frankly, it does not matter which vehicle we compute as correct ( R/C version is near exact ) some mfg. believe its their idea of scale or hit the highway, by NOT MAKING IT CLOSE TO COMPATIBLE TO ANYONE ELSE..! When I get my cs Panther back from being repainted, I will match it up and that will determine if CS has finally pushed me out of their collecting camp...Michael

The they pushed me out with their oversized M8 HMC, somethng I had been waiting for for a long time.

There is validity to the scale issue though. I have a Winter Tiger, two Panthers, and the Panzer IV. They have grown in size in each iteration. CSC said the Panther was a true 1/30, now the MK IV is supposed to be a true 1/30. Problem is, the Normandy Panther looks significantly smaller than the Mk IV, so I am dissapointed in that if you put them both in the same display it doesn't look right. Displayed separately they are excellent.

I think I wil get a King Tiger and give CSC one more chance to finally settle on a scale.

Anyone who knows tanks, reads about tanks ,knows that a Panzer 4 or a Sherman are no where near as big as a Panther. Open your eyes, look at the tanks being sold by CS and then ask yourselves, why is their Sherman and Panzer 4 almost as big as their Panther. When I get my Panther back, a photo will be worth a thousand more words on this subject. Then Brian might actually address the hard questions being asked by some of the collectors..Michael

Michael,

I think the more you study the relative sizes of our new AFV's the more you will discover that the scaling is done very well.

Actually Michael the Panther tank was longer by the PzKfwIV by just 15 to 23 inches in the real world, depending on the fenders being on or off, used or not. It was certainly higher and just a bit wider at 13-15 inches more. So I would have to say the Sherman and the PzKfwIV are indeed almost as big as a Panther.

But I'm missing the real point being made above, the point is collector frustration. And the frustration lies in the knowledge that all vehicles prior to ours are indeed closer to 1/35th scale than one would like to think. Now newer competitor variants attempt to reach the 1/32nd mark, but still miss the 1/30th mark.

Listen I don't know how pleased I would be to have collected AFV's for years and then discover that they were vastly underscaled. So with this I have the greatest of sympathy. But I assure you that we have done our homework and our range is made to fit the 1/30th scale figure.

So please accept my sympathy with your frustration and let me know if there anything we can do to make you a happy collector! After all your very important to us.:)

Very kind regards,

Brian

Did King and Country consult their competitors when they started their business about scale? They took 1/32 scale and through it out the window and started their own niche in the "Toy Soldier" market. Do you think they cared if every collector out there stopped collecting other manufacturers' offerings and started buying K&C? I doubt it seriously. These are "toy" soldiers and vehicles. Get over it..I have more Collector Showcase than K&C..I do not buy them to line them up and break out a ruler. Maybe CS has their own niche and taking a bigger slice of the pie than some people like..

Well stated. I buy what 'pulls my trigger' from a variety of companies and accept that the various makers will be different in their scale interpretation and level of detail...and that these are toys.
But then, I don't count rivets. If I did, I'd probably have to build from scale kits or scratch build-or break a bunch of rulers...;)
mike

I also buy what I like. I am not an acolyte of any one manufacturer and am not a real rivet counter. I accept the fact that figures that come from different makers are going to be different in size (height, girth, bulkiness) because of "interpretation", even if they are same scale. I mix them without hesitation. Vehicles are another matter. Any certain vehicle has known dimensions that should transfer to scale, without interpretation (allowing for such things as shrinkage), to a given size. Not being a strict rivet counter, I can mix vehicles that come within a few millis of being correct, but they must "look" right in context. No undersize Tigers or Panthers. They must look correct in relation to my other vehicles. My real complaints have been overscale figures when compared to vehicles. Tigers and Panthers were huge and having figures that are too big diminishes the size effect that these vehicles should impart. Any quick study of wartime photos will show the overall size of a Tiger or Panther when compared to their crews, which shows that many of the figures made today are still oversized when compared to the vehicles. Mine is an aesthetic complaint more than anything else. -- Al
