Hi I would like to no what I should be looking for when I buy K&C for resale value. At the present I buy what I thinks looks good.I have collected AR series and LAH and now I'm getting WW2 .I like the airbourne 101/82 and waffen ss as this has a great appeal to me.They look great in the diorama's that I have built. Can anyone tell me should I just stay with WW2 for resale or do the lot grow in value.I look at the China figures and it does nothing for me but has anyone collected them and do they go up in value. It appears to me who is a new commer to toy soldiers that WW2 is always selling on ebay.I posted last time that I didn't like the tracks on the tanks but having seen the last Sherman at the local hobby shop I have to say it looks great.Let me finish up by saying that I have not seen any other toy soldiers as good as K&C and I wish I had more money to spend .Cheers Chris.

Looking for a quick buck, or are you going to hold them a while? In the second case, almost ALL of Andy's stuff starts increasing in value as soon as it's retired. A WW2 case in point, the US GMC truck, DD40, was listing at retail (about $89 USD) until the retirement was announced. Soon prices increased, slowly at first, but rather steadily. There are people now on eBay getting a couple hundred bucks for them. I am aware of this one because I started thinking about getting a second one right as it was retired and I watched the prices increase.

As far as WW2 an investor can't go wrong with the S-bloody-S, collectors can't seem to get enough of these little Nazi thugs in any uniform. Anything airborne, German or Allied, also seems to have higher values after retirement.

Most of us worry less about the investment value and buy the stuff we like personally. I know it might be lucrative now, but if you buy stuff you don't care about just to make a dollar, then you aren't enjoying the hobby. Relax, have fun with the K&C stuff. Andy produces 3D art - enjoy it for its own sake.

I have only ever sold one set of K&C and that was because it didn't fit well with my other K&C stuff (it was older and not as detailed).I just wouldn't think of selling any of it,it gives me hours of enjoyment and i love collecting it.However when i finally kick the bucket i've told my wife to sell it all at once!

Rob,

I suspect she would be too traumatised by the loss to think of selling it when you kick the bucket. Now, a donation of said collection to a worthy cause, perhaps a fellow collector, maybe in the Midlands area (NOT Birmingham)....

What was the telephone number of that sniper you hired a few days ago? :p

Simon

I asked the wife what she thought of your plan and she she started laughing hysterically and said she would send you a postcard from her Carribean cruise. She's a hard woman!.:D

As for the sniper, well once he'd failed in the 'job' he was meant to do he's decided to stay over there because the K&C is cheaper.Whats this country coming to when you can't even hire good snipers anymore!

You English guys are NUTS...and I mean that lovingly....Michael

What you want to do is as soon as a WW2 set comes out, buy every one you can find. Sure, your up front cost will be huge, but then you can dictate the terms! YES. You will be absolute ruler. Just don't forget, buy everything. That's the key.

Go for the Napoleonics. Kings X in San Antonio has a bunch of the ones that are being or have already been discontinued. I think there is even a post about them on this forum. Look in the Collector Classifieds on the main forum menu, towards the bottom of the page.

I'm with Binder 1000%; this is a hobby, something to enjoy and help you get away from the stress of daily life.

If your ultimate goals to buy things with the intention of selling them and buying yourself and island somewhere in the South Seas, you're in this for all the wrong reasons and I'd suggest finding another hobby and talking to an investment consultant...............

I'd have to agree with the advice given by Gary and George. Even most of the people who sell on ebay are selling off pieces so they can buy new ones.

I agree...if you are doing it to make money that just doesn’t make sense....unless you are one of our dealer friends. I will be honest though I did buy out a part of a collection once in order to score a couple of missing items for my own collection (like the first Winter Tiger :D ). I was able to sell some of the other odds and ends and it ended up as a wash which means I made back from selling items what I paid for the initial purchase. I was so impressed and happy by the resale value. I still have some of the items...like I have 4 Landing Crafts....5 Sherman 105's....3 GMC Trucks...etc. Buying a full or part of a collection is a wise move if you can come across one! I am in the investment world and I think you should look at your collection as an investment.....but an investment in fun and enjoyment not reslae value. ;)

See i guess i must be a completist.I can't think of any K&C i'd sell off to buy new stuff. It means too much to me.

About 1/4 of my collection are Britains recasts that I painted myself. The other day my teenaged son was looking at some of the more expensive Imperial and Mignot sets of mine. I told him one day they'd be going to him. He said the figures he'd want the most are the ones that I painted. So that made them the most valuable figures I have even though they're worth zilch on the secondary market.

Sometimes, kids are priceless aren't they? They seem to cause you headaches most of the time and then come up with sincere gems like that every once in a while, and it makes up for it tenfold.

If your main intention is to buy for investment purposes I think you are going down a very hard path.

If you do this, you will most certainly become bitter with yourself for having done it. You may become bitter towards the people you spent the money with and with others who coach you on what to buy.

If you are interested in buying to invest you'd really be better off investing your money in the markets, bonds, IRA's, money markets, etc.

You simply cannot expect a hobby item to increase in value the way that K&C has (which may or may not continue over time). If you start poking around, you'll see very quickly that prices for many collectibles are dictated by a few people. If one of those people passes away, loses interest or just doesn't bid or buy you will see about 25 to 33% drop off your items "value".

If you examine the limited edition King & Country has been releasing over the past two years, you will quickly see the following:
500 - 750 peices is sold out right away (all of mine went via pre-orders within a day of letting people know they were coming)
1,000 - 1,250 may be around for quite a while and, maybe, with concessions from dealers like free shipping. If you look at eBay, you'll see the last two SL's are still very much avaialble.

I liken this to the cast iron toys which were achieving fantastic prices in the mid to late 1980's. An Arcade taxi cab in mint condition could reach near 10k easy - maybe more. These days, they go for a few thousand but nowhere near what they brought 20 years ago. Same goes for many tin toys, diecast, you get the idea.

As always you talk great sense - what happens when us sad baby boomers move on? Will the computer generation care for this stuff? Meanwhile who gives a care?
