The next time you go to the candy shop on a Thursday night or a Saturday morning give me a heads up and I will slip by and say hello. I will bring Larso the Insignificant with me!

Will do, I was there this p.m for more lollies, and your trail of mirth still lingered.

Wherever Jack the Pretentious goes I will follow! All this talk of candy makes me want some lollies - as well as the new Conte Gordon Highlanders!

Pretentious - moi?

I give you that Conte's Gordon Highlanders are impressive, but I still think that K&C Black Watch have the edge!

Yes, now that you have pretty much the full set of BW fending off your Currassiers, it's hard to imagine a set could be better. And how is it that the Brit guy from Hong Kong was more aware of Australia Day than you guys???

I hang my head in abject unpatriotic shame, just shows his omnipresence.

He probably had just come from his citizenship ceremony and had studied up.

In future, do not question my knowledge of history - you are the man who had to be convinced that Boxing Day had nothing to do with boxing!

I also might add that Australia Day is actually quite a modern invention without much of a history!

At the risk of starting a firestorm among you lot, I'd say we're the only country in the world who has the day that boat loads of outcasts and convicts arriving as their national day.
Anzac day for me is a better national day with 11 Nov as rememberence day.

Hardly likely to start a firestorm, although the outcasts line is a bit strong. I'd like to think of them as 'the cream of the British Empire'! That's the beauty of history - anyone can write history, the real skill is rewriting it!

Jack, It was a bit of a dodgy start, but I'm kind of proud of the result so far.

I think in S Florida the Mariel boatlift of 1980 is known as the Scarface memorial holiday

You got me there, but I did see the movie, in 1980 I was walking around in a haze of blue smoke avoiding barber shops.

As a ex-serviceman i disagree ANZAC day and remembrance is a day to remember and thank all those who died and fought for our freedom, but Australia day is for us as a country to celebrate everything we have achieved and to be proud of as a young nation.
What every country was started by scholars and respectful people i don't think so.....................^&confuse^&confuse^&confuse^&confuse
