When I signed up for the forum, I was concerned that I was going to be something of a "fish out of water." Apparently, some model airplane collectors infiltrated the premises even before myself.:wink2:

@Chris:

Wouldn't you love to have some nice TS figures to display your models with, airedales, pilots and such?

Just picked this up last night. I have not had a chance to photograph it yet but I have a plan for a dio in the next few weeks. It is a very nice piece and even the flag, which looked problematic in the photographs, works well. For whatever reason, I have learnt to be a bit suspicious of TS photographs. They never seem to look the same as the actual toy soldier or vehicle. Very pleased with this purchase!

Nice pick up Marty and like you, i am suspicious of TS pic's as they don't do the item justice when you see them with your own eyes.

Strange really when you think about it. You would think that when a customer says photographs are inaccurate that it is a complaint about being misled and being tricked into buying a sub standard product. In the toy soldier world I have found that photographs invariably do not do justice to the product. It is no criticism of this maufacturer - his products are just great - but rather a general observation. I find that some of the dios actually are a better advert than the advertising shots, particularly the ones that are really good 'amateur' efforts (I put you and Waynepoo in that mix) that people like me can try to match. I never look at a K&C dio and say "I could do that".

Thanks Marty, im humbled with your words about my dio's. :eek: I think mine are pretty average compared to what Waynepoo and a whole bunch of other collectors have put up on this forum but they have inspired me to make mine better compared to what my earlier efforts looked like. You're dio's have even inspired me even though they don't have any WW2 content in them. :wink2: I agree somewhat on what you say about the professional dio makers (Gordon at K&C and Ken Olsen at H&A to name a few) but i also look at these dio's and say to myself, i reckon i can do certain aspects of that dio although i do stop short on the more difficult parts of the dio and just wish i could do that! Agreed that the amateur dio pic's are a good advert for the manufacturers products although i think they run hand in hand with the professional dio's pic's.

The Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) was the air arm of the Royal Navy until near the end of the First World War, when it was merged with the British Army's Royal Flying Corps to form a new service, the Royal Air Force, the first of its kind in the world. The RNAS came under the direction of the Admiralty's Air Department. (Thanks to Wikipedia!!)
