AN-001 My first one and didn't like it. The sculpting was a bit rough. Its suppose to be rare, but I traded it. Since then, I have over 150 tanks and AFVsP1040386 (Small).JPG. Maybe 400 soldiers .

Hullo Guys,
I am truly proud and, at the same time, humbled by your first K&C 'Buys'....From the very earliest beginnings of the company I basically always wanted to make the kinds of toy soldiers I always wanted as a kid BUT were not available back then OR if they were available my Mum'n'Dad could not afford!!!

Well, many years later, Yours truly and K&C are still making the toy soldiers that I always wanted as a kid AND fortunately for us and I hope many of you we both like many of the same things...Long may it and K&C continue...

Very best wishes to one and all and...as per usual...happy collecting! Andy.

Great comments Andy!!!!..but got to ask, what was your first owned K&C piece???

.. The first one I had was the LRDG EA-22, I was mesmerized on how great looking it is. Been hooked since then..

...Have to ask the obvious question...If you didn't like the figure...Why did you buy it..?

Having said that I agree it is a bit 'rough' compared to what is available now and in more recent years however back then... it was good for its time.

As for it being supposed to be 'rare'...Who said that..? Certainly not me, 'cos we made and sold 500 of them! At least you managed to trade it so someone somewhere who perhaps liked it.

Best wishes and happy collecting! Andy.

Around the mid 80s, found some pieces being sold at a hotel lobby in Hong Kong

I liked so much... I ended up buying another one to span a large French river

In those early days, I didn't surf the internet and relied on fliers and catalogs. Basically I bought it sight unseen. I really like the Vietnam series and those early "DD" and "WS" series, so a lot of the early sculpts were pretty good. Andy, I have at least over 100 of your tanks and AFVs and over 300 soldiers, so you can't be all bad.:salute:: PS. Sorry for the Figarti tank in the background.

That is AN 011. I have all of the Arnhem 44 range (except for a couple of the Jeeps) but never picked up that figure for similar reasons.

My first King & Country set was the Jackson and Longstreet set. Wishing for more ACW down the road...

Hi Sammy,
Thanks for the question...The very first K&C-owned piece I bought (or at least Laura and myself paid for by founding the company back in 1983) would have to be... A marching 'Highland Brigade' soldier. Photos later!

This thread is a great journey down 'Memory Lane'...Best wishes and happy collecting, Andy.

WS043. I bought it on my very first visit to Sierra Toy Soldier. I was running late and they were about to close so I called and Mike said he would stay open a few extra minutes for me. I am pretty sure Mike regrets staying open for me as I have been annoying both he and Myszka on a weekly basis ever since that fateful day!

This was my first K&C set as well, still have it.

These are always enjoyable topics. Some great pieces shared by many. My first K&C was a scenic piece, SP028 Oasis Well, purchased in March 2013. I used the piece as a scenic addition to a 1/32 scale Ultimate Soldier/Forces of Valor/Oryon DAK tabletop diorama.

You can see the well on the right side of this scene:

For a long time; thereafter, I would start a collection of many retired K&C Afrikakorps sets. The first being this Guardbox Special (AK051) - with a figure that I never really cared for, and then a most impressive piece, the Control Tower (AK059):

Luck would lead me to a wonderful find on the 2nd hand market, the well-loved Tunisian Tiger (AK039 SL). This sealed the deal for many future K&C DAK and British 8th sets:

Going back further...

Just a short while before the well (about a month - Feb 2013 (approx.)), I found myself starting a small collection of Collector's Showcase (CS) with the first piece being the CS DAK Tiger. These were my first 1/30 scale sets:
