Where are NEW CONTE CIVIL WAR Figures ?? (4 Viewers)

He was supposed to be at our show, too (MFCA), asked to reserve tables, but then backed out about two weeks before, no further explanation. I didn't get to get a look among the dealers, to see if there was any new material.

Prost!
Brad

Brad Conte had no plans of attending the show in San Antonio. As to your show he did comment on it on his website prior to your show and if I were you I'd check with Conte to get the reasoning for his not attending your show getting his side of the story which apparently you were not made aware of. As you'll note in the photo I posted his new Zulu War Series made their appearance in San Antonio featured by one of his dealers........Joe

I received an email from Conte last night:

Dear Fellow Collector.
This is my first direct email "blast" using a new system I just signed up for & am attempting to learn. I do hope this email reaches you in tact and that all photos and information has come through without a hitch---please email me and let me know if pictures are missing or any information is garbled.

It is my hope that we can send out 1 or 2 emails per month with photos of newly arrived sets and/or previews of upcoming sculpts. I've long wanted to become proficient enough with the computer that I could write to all of you directly and only recently made the time to get the show on the road.

Thanks for your patience. It's been a tiring 2009/10 as we've relocated the warehouse to North Carolina, hired new staff and done our best to reinsert ourselves (the Conte family) into the daily running of our business. I think we are the point where we can at last say that we've pretty much accomplished our goals.

Now, we return to the toy soldiers wars with a vengeance. If you haven't been checking our website at www.conteco.com you might have missed our announcements of 21 Zulu War sets, 15 American Civil War sets and our first of many Roman Empire sets . We also have Robin Hood , William Wallace, the Earps & Clantons, Victorian Explorers and all sorts of other periods in varying stages of production.

BY THE END OF JUNE WE HOPE TO HAVE RELEASED OVER 35 NEW SETS IN THE FIRST 1/2 OF THE YEAR...

If the Conte staff is reading this PLEASE change the background colors of your emails. I almost had a seizure reading it :)

Brad I contacted Conte and asked for clarification on the alleged no-show at the Valley Vorge show and he explained as follows.

Dear Joe The post you forwarded reguarding our alleged 'no-show' at Valley Forge is quite surprising & drastically diffferent from the facts and merits a response as once again collectors are being given misinformation. We very much wanted to do this show and were planning on atteding. We had booked hotel rooms, reserved a large trailer, had stock already segregated & being pulled together to take to the show, had employees scheduled to work that weekend and even had recuited 2 collectors from the area who were going to come in and help work the tables due to the usual large collector crowds we draw. I even had made reservations to fly one of my scupltors in from the West coast to do sculpting demonstrations for collectors.

We tried -UNSUCCESSFULLY- for over 4 months via emails, phone calls and letters to reserve 6 or 8 tables (had planned on about 50' length of dispaly and goods) but stangely received nothing but silence. Finally, we attracted the attention of a very kind gentleman named Mr. Levy who apologized profusely for the lack of response from his fellow show committtee members (one described as being in Europe/another described as generlly not responsive/etc.) and he promised to do what he could for us about 3 weeks before the show. The problem as we were told was that the club committee was renting a much smaller portion of the ballroom/convention room than they had the prior year (about 70% of their prior space)and that they simply did not have enough room for all of the dealers who wanted to attend-Conteco included. We suggested that the convention center would certainly not stupidly turn away $$$ and offered to take even more tables/spaceif we had to in order to make things happen. We were told that based upon our interest & that of other dealers, that the committee would discuss the possibility of renting more space at their next meeting and if the committee approved then the hotel would be approached about the extra space. We were told that it was very likely the committee would rent the additional space.

About 2 weeks prior to the show we began hearing from dealers and collectors that the promoter/committee was amazingly tellin folks we would be at the showand apparently were using our attendance as a drw or inducement to lure collectors in attending. The funny thing about this was that folks were being told we would be there before we were even offered tables at the show!! So, while we were on hold and told nothing, collectors were being encouraged to atted as we would be there....a stange set of circumstances.

Sadly, when we finall heard form "the Committee", we were amazingly told that they had decided not to rent more space from the convention center (so available space sat empty during the show unrented) but we could have six tables in the lobby of the convention center-OUTSIDE- of the show. We were told that the tables we were being offered were not guarded by security and not locked up and that any theft or damage would be at our risk. Worse stil, we were told that our treasures would be out in the public area of the convention center next to the exit doors and escalators and that anyone walking in would be able to access our items. Since we were takin $25,000 worth of product and rare on of a kind orginal sculpts as well as scores of painting masters, one might imagine my worries with regard to theft or pilferage. As I couldn't (a) provide my own security, (b) have an employee sleep by the table and (c) could not lock up or secure our goods in any way I rejected the tables and implored the promoters to do better. I never received any future response.

I've written and respectfullu requested tables at the 2011 show but true to form have not received the courtest of any response. I remain hopeful that given a year's notice that the committee will make room for us next year. I hope these fact explain our alleged 'no show' at Valley Forge.

Kind regards,
RC

Brad

So, the new Civil War figures weren't at your show OR the Texas show?

Jay the main reason for the Civil War figures not being at the shows was that their production samples were just resently approved and ACW sets 001,002,003 along with Zouvaes set 002,003,004 and 005 should be arriving in the later part of this month at the warehouse and starting to ship. Joining them will be Zulu Set 021 The Flyin Zulu along with set 001 of the Roman Winter Games. Can't wait to get my hands on the Flying Zulu to play with......The Lt.

It is one thing to provide your perspective on the conditions, it is entirely another to insult the people involved (and calling someone a drunk qualifies as an insult). If you wish to take that tone, it does not need to be posted for the world to see.

Your free to your opinions...but need to follow forum rules in stating them.

Hahahahaha all the other bashing and veiled insults and once again MY post gets deleted. Whom did I call a drunk? I asked did a DRUNK lay out the show ???

I believe when these figures come to market - it will be some of the best ACW releases ever made. :D

This thread has taken on a bit of an adversarial flavor. It may be warranted but it is not necessary in my opinion. The world of toy soldier collecting is a passion for many and just a hobby to some. Accordingly the creations of Richard Conte and Conteco are indeed a force in the collecting world. Albeit the pace of their rollouts is not in the league of say what Richard Walker can accomplish at Britain's or certainly what Andy Nielsen does at K&C. I have seen and am drooling over for purchase in the next year Richard's rendition of 1st Manassas with Jeb Stuart and the First Virginia Cavalry smashing the Fire Zouaves. A splendid two part piece that would make any curio cabinet, den or shelf come to life with such drama and artistry. His past, current and probably future figures I feel are/will be representative of high quality depictions of the Civil War as well as the other era representations that he creates. At some point a manufacturer deserves to be put into the context of the overall economic conditions, internal issues and occasional faulty logistics that can and will occur. To villify or show contempt for the speed of the distribution is subject to the variables beyond reasonable control sometimes. Matt at First Legion explained this type challenge in his postings regarding not just creating first rate Civil War era depictions but also Napoleonics and WW II products. A more realistic viewpoint of perhaps encouragement and patience may be a good angle in understanding Conteco's evolution.

Does anyone actually know for sure when these are coming out and are they up for pre order?

I have called and emailed Conte with no response. I am certainly wanting these figures but I also want to be treated as a customer should be.

I contacted another manufacturer (not just a dealer) this last Thursday and they responded within 24 hours, so I know it can be done.

Everyone seems to think he replies to all. They have open hours listed on the site with the phone. If that doesnt work Maybe the Lt. can help ya.

I agree with you

Bama Boy you can pre order the sets you want by going to Conte's web site at www.contec.com scrolling down to the New Pre Order Page clicking on to PRE ODER. Follow the instructions selecting the sets you want to order.

The ACW sets 001,002 & 003 along with the Zouave set 002,003,004 and 005 are schedule to arrive at the warehouse and shipping later on this month. You'll be contact to confirm your order and to complete the trans action.

Well, I do understand that that would take a lot of time. However, I have ran and own a business myself and just figure that the people who pay my bills are worth my time.

Also, I did call during office hours but had no luck.
