On another thread I wondered whether many collectors would still be buying Tiger tanks in ten years time. Today I'm opening the question up a bit more. Where do collectors see their collecting directions going over the next few years? Or, are some thinking that the day will come when they call 'time'?

As long as the products are interesting, accurate and detailed I will continue to get what I like. Its that simple for me. As for tigers there are still some variants not done so, its certainly not over on that side. Initial prototype to be done and, late war Zimm with steel wheels. As with anything as long as they are spaced out its not an issue I would think I would always get figures of some descript but, who knows what will happen

Interesting thread Larso. I agree with Mitch if the products are interesting and detailed then i will continue to collect them. I am pretty hooked on the series that i collect and i don't see me in the future calling it stumps and moving onto another hobby. I may go into another series (funds permitting) but i doubt i'll stop collecting Toy Soldiers. I'll also still collect Tiger tanks so long as the detail still remains as it is today.

10 years later would these tanks be still selling at US$215 a piece ?????? ^&grin

In ten years time i will still be catching up going on the quality and the speed of releases,so no dramas here.
(mate you can never have enough TIGERS.)

From now until 2018 there is a strong possibility that a great deal of Great War subjects will be on the cards which is just what I prefer to collect so I think and hope I will be happy for a few years yet as it would be very remiss of makers to not produce figures in memory of a lot of hundred year anniversaries coming up.

I'm with waynepoo. Great War all the way and its even better when it is an often overlooked subject not being massed produced by a number of manufacturers at the same time. The theatre of WW1 K&C has gone down has been a breath of fresh air but it will eventually, as does everything, run its course as will the superb Knights of the Sky series from JJD.

If someone brings out this bally Dardanelles range I'm after I have got money heating up my pocket. But that's it. I won't buy Toy Soldiers for the sake of it. They are a luxury item. It therefore has to be an era I'm interested in. If it's not my thing I simply save my cash until something does come along.

Larso ,

Good topic...Even though i love Tiger Tanks , i only have two...When i began to seriously collect TS's 20 years ago i envisioned collecting Afrika Korps only , As time went by i decided i wanted to represent each nation in my display case...Then i got every odd item i figured you would not end up seeing again...I like where Toy Soldier collecting is going...With the great range of choices & how far the quality has changed since i began collecting...IMO this is one of those hobbies that can never be completed , just when thinking of all the theaters of the war & the change of seasons & years , each nation evolved with equipment & uniforms throughout the conflict...What i would like to see for WW2 would be each or any of the following Hungarians , Romanians , Bulgarians , Finn's , Polish in their native uniform not dressed in British gear ! Would also like to see some Greek troops...Maybe , since K&C has been getting into early war german's it is possible ? At least that is what i am telling myself...!
Anyways i don't see collecting ending for me...I have been interested in TS's & history since i was a kid...It is an enjoyable hobby...That's my thoughts...

... you can never have enough TIGERS.

Guderian said it, Wittmann said it and now Wayne said it as well! You never can have enough Tigers! {sm4}

Seriously, I do believe that there're many items which haven't been done yet or where the quality will improve with the next re-release (in 5-10 years.
Also there are or have been many conflicts which haven't been covered yet. I'm more concerned about the increasingly lack of display and storage space in my house (and the state of my bank account of course).

My collection is over now, I finished it a few days ago.

I am very interested in ww2 axes forces, but also other periods.Well, I have all the ww2 main fronts with germans and some italians, and a dio for each historic period I like, according to the space I have. I could even make a little dio about "french foreign legion" modifying the KC ww1 soldiers and buying the foreign legion one made for France.I don' t like repetition, so one tiger is enough. If I lived in a large appartment, I could eventually make a dio with 3 or 4 tigers of the same regiment, but several dios with different tigers, no thank you! And I don' t want to live in a tank parking!

So I was lucky that my space was big enough to place all what I wanted and decorate my room in a great and original way!
I am happy like this, whatever can be done in future, I will not need that...

The original question to start this thread was...:In what direction will my collecting habits go in the coming years??".....I have now been collecting Toy soldiers for the last 11-12 years. Sometimes i think there is not much more that can be released that i do not have, then an old model is re-released and i just have to have it. New Companys appear with fresh exciting new ideas, which i also have to buy!!....What has changed in the time i have been collecting??...I used to be a one brand collector, never entertained the idea of buying from another Company. that
has now changed, i got too frustrated waiting for my then favourite manufacturer to release items i really wanted only to see them released by another manufacturer. these items i did not then purchase out of some sort of misplaced alliegance to my favourite Company. i missed out on some terrific releases in that period, some of which i have been fortunate enough to buy on the second hand market. Now i have several favourite manufactures, and i buy from the company that gives me what i want..with quality, and at a fair price....there is one company (IMO) that is at this moment head and shoulders in front of the rest, and will keep my interest...(and C/C) number as long as they carry on with thier strategy. The future.....Stop collecting?? i hope never!!.
Be more selective considering todays prices? Definately!!. Buy from whoever delivers originality-quality-competitive pricing-good customer service....HELL YES!!!!!!!!.

Interesting question Larso. I think I'm coming to the point now where I don't want too many more Germans to be honest, I've been collecting them for ten years now so they are well represented in my collection. (an exception would be something I don't yet have such as a series of Winter FJ's)Over the last two to three years both the RAF and British D Day ranges have gotten more and more of my attention and War budget. So for me its those two ranges that I'll be focusing on in the next few years. As for vehicles I'm really enjoying the more rare releases such as Bowsers, trucks and Tilleys etc. So for me the main change will be focus focus focus, hard for a scatter gun approach collector I've been in the past!{sm4}

Currently my collection is based on the William Britain Zulu series and the Delhi Durbar. I suppose eventually when they wind down I may move on to something else but not sure what. Perhaps I will get back into the Ceremonial side again and add to my glossies.

Finally a chance to post properly in my own thread!

My focus has been the British army (red-coat phase) and it's colourful enemies. Hence I have JJDs British 4th Foot and 28th Foot (and a few misc others) facing up to Jacobites (love them!) and Indians respectively. Conte 24th Foot and Gordon Highlanders vs Zulus (a few Britains in there too!) and I'll probably still get the Afghans if they come out. In the middle there is a stack of K & C Napoleonics, including cavalry. While I'm close to done with the first two time periods, I see myself continuing with the last. I want British Line infantry yet, and a few other bits and pieces but the new French Grenadiers may otherwise flesh my display out to my satisfaction.

I have been adding to my K & C Crusader line as figures I like come out, so that will continue for some time I hope. Otherwise the fantastic CS 43AD Romans and Celts are a relatively new line and I'll pretty much get anything else that comes out in this range.

So those last couple aside, by 2014 I'll be looking for something new. I've a wide interest in history but a limited budget (even more so when the Australian dollar returns to 'normal'), so I may only be able to get a couple of figures a month. I'd be keen to take on another Roman line. Conte's is good but the snow doesn't grab me so much. Given my time over again, I'd have got the Spartacus range. At this point I'd probably prefer something in the Punic wars. The mix of troops from Cathage, Celtic Italy and Numidia in particular, against the Romans would interest me a lot. So maybe the Battle of Cannae or Zama (no Celts but elephants) or even a civil war range as well? Otherwise, in more modern times, Mount Cassino offers an interesting range of nationalities and of course the German 1st Para Division.

In 10 years time some of us will be retired and some are still lucky enough to have jobs with same pay but definatelly these tanks will not be selling at ~ $200 each any more. Just loook at K&C prices for their tanks 10 or so years ago, it has
been more than double the price since then ^&grin . I'll be so lucky if I still could buy some figures in next 10 years {sm4}

Not much room left for matte-painted figures in my collection, anymore. Very, very selective in this area mainly from Britains... except making room for FL's upcoming Agincourt range... ^&grin ^&grin^&grin

My collecting is now migrating toward traditional glossy figures once again to diversify my collection and whatever is left of my display area. Glossies make an impressive impact in the curio cabinets and I find that the sets of eyes viewing my collection seem to spend more time viewing them, attracted by the sharp colors and traditional charm! Also, you can get more bang for the buck with glossies! :) :):)
