Guys which one of the 3 SdKfz 253 versions will you buy ???
some remarks however
The Sdkfz 253 was built in 1940-1941, only 285 were built in total . It took part in the battle for France in 1940 as a light observation vehicle with the Sturmartillery, later it took part in Operation Barbarossa ( If you take the winter version of the 6th SS Gebirgs div Nord then you can only use it for battles around Salla at the Norwegian and Finnish border and later during the German retreat from Finland and Norway) . It was used in Africa and I found a picture of one belonging to the 9th SS panzer Div knocked out by the US troops in Normandy . No proof the 12th SS had some left in 1944 . Maybe someone has proof of that .

Guy..

Nord were also one of the largest divisions in operation nordwind in the ardenne area so, they could have still had these vehicles left. I would have to check. I know these vehicles in this format were used in the battles of Kharkov as Papa Hausser used one to see his troops and the conduct of the battles. I have pictures of these and, they were available for battles in russia later that year also. . There is a picture of one of these with Konigstigers in Hungary.

If they survived that long they surely could have been in Normandy. Records are often proven wrong with pictures that are always coming through as veteran collections etc become available with death etc.

I would imagine they could well be used in the formats TG has issued.

6th SS Gebirgs div came too late for the Ardennes, but they fought in the Vosges mountains in France early Jan 1945 against the US 45th inf div, but not in the BoB. That is what I always have heard and read

Operation Nordwind only started on the 1st of Jan. And Nordwind has nothing to do with the Ardennes area. The Vosges are not part of the Ardennes region. The Vosges mountains are situated near the German border under(SE) the French Ardennes region .

Easy decision for me, one of each thanks!!

is the vosges not part of what is commonly refered to as the ardenne department? maybe, not the belgiun ardenne in the sense of the december offensive but, I did say ardenne area and, was not mentioning that specific area for the operations of the Nord division.

The releases could ntherefore be used for these battles

The SdKfz 253 were all produced 1940 - 1941 and aside for some painted in desert sand colour, all of them started out in grey. Although I do have a photo (b&W) which shows a disruptive pattern probably put on in the field or in a factory refurbishment.

I think most of the SdKfz 253 were in Stug and Artillery battalions on the Eastern Front. Note the artillery and division insignia.

The roof was protection from counter battery fire shrapnel and was a good platform for a range finder.

The whitewashed grey one will go nicely with my K&C winter Kraftwaggen.

The French Ardennes is that little piece (08) next to the Belgian border( see map attached)and part of the department "Champagne-Ardenne" . The Vosges region is (88) much lower in France and part of the department "Lorraine" and next to the Alsace region. I should know it because I worked there for 11 years.

If they offered one in all Grey I would have been on it but I might have to go for the Normandy one.
